My Show Setup / Re: How My Show is Shaping Up This Year
« on: July 13, 2017, 10:01:56 AM »
Just keep moving forward. You'll get there. This is my first year, I am feeling pretty overwhelmed at the moment trying to put the finishing touches on my sequences, plus trying to build and power all the lighting elements. I am really thankful there are so many helpful people on here, Auschristmas lighting,  and the falcon Christmas forums.

And I can't say enough about the people who have made and given out so many excellent free sequences. Even with all that help I like you feel like I have a very modest Christmas show.

But here is a revelation I had the other day. My modest show is better than anything I ever saw as a kid. And I have very happy memories about going out to see the lights as a kid. So I am sure the kids will still love it.

QldKing, what are the dimensions on that Matrix you are using to display those images?

Sorry Mackdave for not answering your question. You asked:

"How do you make the eyes blink the 16x 50 face matrix? I put them in the sequence as a picture under the model. I think i'm missing something."

You simply place the images of the eyes moving over top of the still eyes in the mouth positions. To do this you create an additional layer above the faces effect on your megatree (or matrix, or whatever other model you are using), and place the image of the eye you want on the new layer. If you are using a 16x50 Matrix or MegaTree, the eyes should line up perfect when you have scaling off and the X,Y position of the image set to 0,0.

Let me know if you have any other issues. The sequences I have above have examples of this in action that you can view to verify your understanding.

So I played with this animated gif in xlights and I was getting the same clipping problems you are. Where parts were missing from some frames. I remembered that I had that problem with another animated gif where I had used color #000000 while drawing the image, and xlights seems to recognize #000000 as an off state. And years ago in game development color #000000 was frequently used to mark pixels in an image as being transparent, and Xlights seems to follow that convention. So I found anything I layered behind that image would show through just like it would on a 1980's early 1990's graphic engine (showing my age here? lol). I changed the color to #0a0a0a and the problem went away, even though it is a very similar color. I bring this up only as a reference in case the issue has something to do with it, although I could not fix the issues with the Luke animation by changing the color #000000 to #0a0a0a in this case.

I use Photoshop CC 2015.1.2 to make all my animated gifs. I switched these images to Piskel and recreated the animated gif and that fixed the issue on my machine. So the issue seems to be with Photoshop CC and Xlights. Xlights is the only program I checked that animation on that seems to have a problem with it. Firefox, Internet Explorer, and the windows 10 photos app run the animated gif just fine.

I will attach the piskel version of the gif here for comparison if someone on the Xlights team wants to compare it to the previous photoshop version earlier in this thread. I will also check my version of Photoshop to see if there are any updates for it in case it is a known issue. Although that wouldn't explain why the animation works in all the above named programs correctly and not Xlights. It could just very well be a bug or incompatibility with Xlights.

In the meantime while we wait to see if the xlights team can sort this out, if anyone finds any issues with any of my animted gifs I have already posted, please let me know and I will rebuild them in piskel.

It should work just as it does above. If you want to package your sequence and post it here, I will take a look at what you are doing and maybe I can give you some advice or fix whatever the problem is.

Maybe that will even motivate me to create more of those images.

Wow, excellent work Xlights team. That's a heavy list to complete in such a short time.

New post, new video.... Steelers - Here We GO!

I do realize that this one has a limited audience (Us Steeler fans), however I think it shows the versatility of the lights that they can be extended outside of just a Christmas setting. And since the football playoffs go through January, why not support your team?!

I got this sequence from the creator of Leechburg Lights in Pennsylvania, Clyde Lindsey when we met at Light Up Ohio. I have been busy adapting it to my set-up, which is very different from Clyde's who has a lot of dumb RBG's. This is a Leechburg lights original, so I will have to ask Clyde if he minds if I release his sequence on here, but if not, I am already doing a complete resequence of this one myself, so it will get released in some form or other. I redid about half of the images and animations on this sequence as usual, so I will include those that I did here. Like a lot of xlight sequencers, Clyde utilized the internet to find and use some of the gif animations in his sequence. You can always tell because gif's for the web are generally given a matte (Usually white) to help them blend into the web pages they are displayed on. So on those images, I removed the matte and gave it a purely transparent background. I also added some custom graphics and animations for the field goal. If anyone would like me to create similar animations for their favorite team, just ask.

Edit on 06/12/17:redid the arches and arch fans this past week. Still have some work on them to get them just the way I want them though. But very close to where I want them.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Re: Bug on import
« on: June 02, 2017, 07:13:52 PM »
Okay ignore this. It is not a bug, it's a feature. I just remembered from a video that Keith Wesley put out on importing that there was a new setting that you should use on older sequences when importing them. The setting is a check box on the settings->sequence settings dialog. Simply uncheck the "Allow blending between models" and this problem goes away. Either that or you could go one by one to each effect and change it to "Normal" on the layer blending which is probably the correct thing to do to modernize the sequence since I am betting it was purely accidental on Logan's part that these effects were given the "Effect 2" property. He just never noticed because before Layer blending between models it didn't cause an issue.

So this was a feature, not a bug.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Solved: Bug on import
« on: June 02, 2017, 06:19:33 PM »
Back Story:

I am a first year light enthusiast. I started using Xlights in January. And since then I have learned a lot more about using the set-up tab and other Xlights features. As well as new capability came to Xlights such as the ability to put groups into groups. As I felt like the original sequences and set-up was pretty messy,  I decided to re-create my entire set-up using the groups into groups idea, then create new sequences and import my old sequences into the new cleaner, easier to manage versions.

Bug:

Step one went pretty smoothly, and I loved the result of the new cleaner looking set-up. I made a whole house group and then put all my other groups into it. So when I created a new sequence, it was much much easier to navigate. I then created a new sequence for Star Wars Funk, and then imported my old messy sequences into it. At first I loved it, as it was just much easier to manage. But then I noticed that some of the effects were not working. I did some troubleshooting and found that for some reason, there were effects that were imported with different properties, specifically what I noticed was under the layer blending tab the effects which were originally set to "Normal" had now been shifted to "Effect 2". And that is why they weren't showing up. It actually was an entire section of those effects that were given the incorrect Effec2 property on layer blending.

I will attach the before and after. The problem area of the sequence begins at 2:08.275 on the whole house group, Left Dormer Top Line, Right Dormer Top Line, and Roofline Top Line and continues through 2:37.200. All the effects on those models were incorrectly given the "Effect 2" property on layer blending. I looked at the check sequence log, there isn't any indication of a problem there.

I am using 2017.15 but this problem existed on at least 2017.14 as well. Probably earlier versions as well.

Edit: Upon going back and checking the older sequence, my initial observation seems to now be incorrect that the effects in question were set to "Normal" and are now set to "Effect 2" after importing. Upon checking again it seems as though they were always set to "Effect 2". So unless I did something while comparing the two sequences side by side that changed that result, I have no idea why the effects are not working upon importing to the new cleaner sequence file.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Re: Importing sequence issues
« on: June 01, 2017, 08:13:23 PM »
I recently had a similar issue with an imported sequence myself. After rendering I would hit play and would get nothing. But if I clicked on the first effect on the timeline I would see the preview of the effect and then if I hit play,  it would play no problem. That was with 2017.12, after upgrading to 2017.14 I didn't see that problem. So not sure if it was a bug that got fixed, or just a fluke issue with the PC.

Yes very nice, thanks for the Memorial Day discount. I had to pick this one up. Can't beat the $20 price tag.

Not to mention that I read the videos from the seminar total around 60 gb. If that's true that is a huge amount of data to download. I certainly wouldn't lend my internet out for someone to download that much.

The Water Cooler / Re: xTremeSequences Gives Back

Any chance the XLights dev's might start a Patreon campaign? I support a number of developers and find it is easy and interesting way to support the cause.

The method that seems to work best is to release the latest builds to Patreon supporters first, then 2 weeks later to the general public.

Also the developers give special progress reports to their followers and give their requests priority.

Take a look at CEMU on Patreon as they have a very successful campaign that brings in about $40,000 per month. Although very different type of software.

I would gladly support an XLights Patreon campaign.

Yes I would be very interested in buying them on flash drive as well, especially if it includes a free lilia sequence.
