New tutorial for importing effects from LOR/HLS/Vixen
« on: May 18, 2015, 02:50:58 PM »

I've created a new tutorial/video on some stuff coming in 4.0.32 that will aid in importing data from other sequencers into xLights as editable effects.  My goal is to be able to get the stuff that I have sequenced in HLS the last couple of year into xLights as effects that I can edit within xLights.   I'm very very close.    ;D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnNeXwizh3U

It currently will import from LOR LMS files, LOR SuperStart files, hlsIdata files, and Vixen 2.1 files.  Other formats that can be used as a data layer can also work via the "Convert to Effect" option on the node popup menu.

Hi,

Watched the video twice ; do you have any plans to extend support for LSP files (ie  brought in as seq files ?)

Regards

i'm not sure if i am doing this correct but everytime i try to import my .vix file it freezes the program. so i start a new sequence, add audio and my models, hit the import tab and pick my file a couple seconds later it says program not responding.  i can import to the data layer but the my channels from vixen dont line up exactly with xlights.  also not sure if it is because of the sequence is from vixen 3 and exported to vixen 2.1

Any chance you could send along your xlights_* things and the .vix  file?  Likely via dropbox or something.   I'm curious as to why it would be hanging.

i will send that to you as soon as i get home.  I understand about the .vix file but do you just need the .xls file or other stuff as well.

I would need the xlights_networks.xml and xlights_rgbeffects.xml to see what models you have defined.

I can try with just the .vix to see if it's something "basic" like parsing the  vixen XML or something, but it could also be in the rgbeffects or something.

Your vix file seems to be too large for the wxWidgets XML parser to handle.   It's stuck in their someplace trying to read the file.   For the Convert tab, we use a different XML parser that can handle these things better, but it's a bit of a pain to use.   I'll try and get the vixen import to use it which hopefully fix this.

That said, importing 27K channels this way is going to REALLY suck no matter how you look at it.   Rendering time is going to be awful.

Thanks for the video, Dan.    I am going to try to pull in all my NC effects that I exported over into LMS in 2013; I was not in the habit of saving the xml files back then so I do not have them.  So, being able to pull the effects back into XL is what I have always wanted to be able to do--I have always wanted to only be in one sequencer...  THANKS SO MUCH!!!
