Grad Night Show
« on: May 22, 2015, 06:51:04 PM »
Here's a couple songs  sequenced for a graduation party.  I was down to the last couple days so I repeated a lot of the sections in the songs but there's some cool examples of my new xLights effects in here.  I'm attaching the XML so you can use any of them you like.  The second song in this video was sequenced in 1 hour so I kept it really simple.

I'll be going through that to see how you layer so many effects.

Thanks for sharing.

How familiar are you with the program and how do you want to use it?

There's several videos but version 4 changed everything so a lot of videos are outdated.  The XML is the file that stores all the effect definitions you use in the sequence.  The other files I provided define the models I use in my yard.  You may have different models.  xLights operates on a Show directory.  So to view my files you would need to create a new blank directory and copy all those files into it.  Then change your Show directory to that directory in xLights.  Then open up one of the song's XML files.  It will complain that it can't find the media file so it should popup a dialog where you can select a media file.  You can use the same songs or pick any song that's long enough or switch it to an animation.  Then you need to do a Save or hit the Render All (green gear icon) to force it to process the effects.  After that you can start to preview the songs.  It's a lot of stuff to know how to do.  Most people have used the program longer so they would know how to use the files.

HOLY SMOKES.  That is TOTALLY COOL.  Thanks for posting Gil.  I saved the files; same idea as others-plan to see how you do your layering

Yeah I just noticed I said the models were from my yard but actually that was a show at a school.  But that does demonstrate how you can do multiple setups.  I had one show directory for that school show and I have another for my yard and I have several other show directories for testing and troubleshooting sequences from others.

Thanks Gilrock,

They look very nice (as can be accepted).

have downloaded the zip file for later analysis and understanding.

much of the time it is not knowing what effects are there or how just to drop with the default values (which is what I do now), but HOW one can achieve a particular effect instance and for how long to let it run before changing it -- that makes the difference.

This was so helpful!  I love that we can run multiple instances of xLights at the same time.  Was able to copy/paste from your sequence straight across into my "testing" sequence (where I keep ideas for later use).  Thanks for sharing!

Just got a chance to get the music and enjoy these sequences. Thanks Gil for posting this!  I learned a bit more of fine tuning the morphs for some great effect ouputs!

I have manually added some of the effects to my xlights_keybindings.xml but I really wish we had the Presets feature againi!

Gil I notice your Text Matrix was 12 x 50. What was your Pixel Spacing?
This looked really great with your scrolling text as well as your other matrix.

For the Text Matrix?  Those were the 5m 30 leds/m ribbon strips where 3 leds light up per pixel.  Not sure what to call that spacing.  Vertically the ribbons were spaced 2.5" but that was because it happened to be the spacing of the wires for the fencing they gave me to mount them to.

Hi,
At the Christmas lights mini in Sydney last weekend , one of the guys demonstrated a fully functional matrix made up of P10 panels , driven of a BBB (with the Falcon Player) and an octoscroller cape.

Each P10 panel is 32 * 16 pixels and is about $11 US from Ray Wu (indoor panls though ie not waterproof)
He (darylc) had 6 panels together as one matrix

Definitely worth looking at , for text scrolling - he also had movies playing on it (using xlights I am sure).
