newbie needing help
« on: July 03, 2018, 08:59:20 PM »
Hi my name is Angela, this will be my first year doing a light show. I have done hours of research and youtube videos trying to crunch all this knowledge of softwares, LOR and I am going with Xlights, lights, controllers etc. I am on a time clock because I have to be able to sell all this to my girlfriend so she will fork out the money I need to make this magical show I plan to have for Halloween and Christmas. so back to Xlights I have pulled my hair out trying to figure out how to put a free sequence by Logan Carpenter on my house and I keep failing. I get confused with the different files and how to make everything come together. I would like the mega tree but I can't figure out how to import the images and sequence to my models. I am beyond aggravated! My grand kids love the Troll movie, so do I. I need HELP!!!somebody help me please. :'(

Is your layout all done?  Do a Tools -> Package Log Files and post the zip file.  That will give us the setup.

Just an idea in your profile put in where u live.  City... I have had people stop by and spent a few hours showing all the different elements. Touchy feelly,  most get a better understanding that way. Yes some charge but I'm totally against that.

If someone tried to charge you for help run a thousand miles. There are lots of good generous people in this hobby. Don’t be taken in by the snake oil salesmen.

If you need extra assistance:

Join the Facebook group. Traffic is high there so for general questions you will get fast response. For trickier questions the forum here has the experts.

Join the us Wednesday evening zoom call. Lots of people all on the call and they lave answering questions. Although the forum can be intimidating due to the number online.

Finally post in fb asking if someone will jump into zoom to help you with something. 9 times out of 10 someone will jump in ... pretty much 24x7.

I have viewed your video and it helped me up to where I am now. I have a problem with justifying the music because he has mega tree talking to a smaller tree intro and a outro so i went into my Adobe Audition and added the intro and outro at end but I can't seem to move the effects to match up. also the mega tree images dont show. I know the models arent in sync, I have been working with these problems for weeks. I have gotten closer but I know im missing the big ship. I am still very clumsy and I get frustrated and just shout down until the next day. I really appreciate everyone responding to help. Thank you.

So you have merged together multiple audio files? If so that is not the way to go. You sequence each song / audio clip separately then use a scheduler or player to put them back together at show time.

Heaps of free sequences on the google share drive to help you out if you get stuck this year. I don’t have the direct link, but it’s on the home page somewhere on xlights.org

I've attached the TalkingTreeIntro in its own separate sequence.  I've modified the way the faces worked from what Logan and I like my version better because it will scale onto your tree better if it doesn't exactly match Logan's tree size.  What I did was breakout the eye and mouth into their own images and then I use On effect to paint the tree background.

To view my sequence you unzip this package and then change your xLights show directory over to the Christmas directory in this package.  Then open the TalkingTreeIntro.xml.  Render it and hit Play you will be able to see what it looks like.  You could Import this sequence onto your own or you can copy/paste just the trees, stars, and timing tracks.

You also need to setup the singing face definitions on your tree model.
