When I try to add a image of my house nothing happens?

I am using 4.00.17. I have tried various different formats and it doesn't do anything.

You didn't give any details so I have to assume you are on the Preview tab and hitting the Image button and selecting the image file of you house.  Next release will auto resize the image to the size you have listed to the left which you can modify by hitting the Set Size button.  Try editing you house photo in Photoshop and make it 1280x720 and then in the program put the same values into the Set Size dialog.  Things also run different between Windows, Mac, and Linux so that's why flyinverted asked you which platform but you didn't say.
