Many have stated that they use xL/NC exclusively to sequence their shows...I wish to do the same, if I can. I get to the setup window, and am immediately stumped. Please look at "My Show Setup" (link in sig) (post#2 has a diagram of my proposed setup), and chime in on the following questions:
1- with 2 F16's and 1 hub, do I setup as E1.31?
2- if yes, should I choose 1 universe for each device, or choose "starting universe# 1" and "# of universes 3"?
3- how do I setup the Lynx Express? (standard LED's, 16 channels)...do I have control of fx and timings in xL/NC?
Gonna go back and re-watch Seans videos

Per the drawing you posted, #1 is no, you won't be using E1.31 output at all. You have the FPD (like me and many others). There is a promised FPP interface change coming to make that clearer.
#3 - You have several ways to get DMX to your Lynx Express. You can configure one of the outputs on the FPD to be DMX in the proper universe range, or do like I did and get one of the Falcon Pixelnet to DMX Bridge boards. Five universes of DMX (currently 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) but eventually will be changeable to any combo of 5 from the 8 in a Pixelnet stream.

I did my set up a couple weeks ago saved it and played with nutcracker some since. Today I went in opened nutcracker and the set up is gone. Any thought on why this would happen?
Thanks

On the first screen for "directory" did you change it? That is where the setup file gets stored.

Let me clarify, I am trying to just get through the xL/NC program setup so I can get a little jump on learning some sequencing. I dont have any of the proposed hardware components yet. So there is no way to setup the software to generate a preview of my proposed setup until this FPP interface change is implemented?

starting universe 1, number of universes 16. You can change things around later. I dedicate / reserve the first 512 addresses for DMX and use the rest for pixelnet. I have all the stuff on my house in the addresses 513-4096 and all the stuff in my yard in addresses 4097-8096. Addresses do not have to be used consectively and you will be able to go back and change them later as you get your setup nailed down. Do not worry about the number of addresses or using them all. I have an excel spreadsheet I use to plan out my layout and the addresses I will use. When I first started I used estimates on number of nodes I would need for different elements - always estimate high. Once I got the actual I just went back and refined the spreadsheet. There are unused addresses all over the place (little blocks). That is no biggie unless you are getting so that you need every address. I've done 3 years now and I'm still under 8096, but using about 6500 total.

Just setup e1.31 for as man universes that will cover your models. My setup is 48 universes since I have 24000 channels. After saving your setup , go to nutcracker tab setup some models and then create effects

Well, I stumbled upon something that clarifies part of my confusion: I assumed the software (xL/NC) sets the channels on the hardware (in my case F16's) when in fact the hardware has to be setup with its' own software.
