I attached a screen capture of what It does when I updated to the latest. It also will not shut down as I have to restart the computer. Wasn't sure how to attach crash logs
-
So all you did was try to open the program and it locks up?

I run xLights on several computers. From my own experience, when I see the effect icons in black, that indicates a disk latency and/or high memory utilization issue. High memory usage = paging to disk = disk latency.
It does not take a powerhouse of a computer to run xLights but you do have to have a reasonable system.
How much free memory does your system have before you start xLights?

Also I have never ever had to restart a computer to kill xLights. You should always be able to kill with task manager. Yes it doesn't always work first try but I've never had to resort to a reboot.

attached is my computer specs. It gave me a bug window, but i did not know how to supply it to you.
Also I just tried it again and the same thing happened. .6 worked ok, but as I said when I updated to.7 icannot do anything.

Hi tj,
Have also ben using windows 7 with no such problem.
4.1.8 has just been released.
Perhaps reboot first and then install that.
If it still hangs, suggest you sip ip the three xlights- files in your working directory.
Btw that is an underscore , not hyphen. Can see underscore on my iPad :)
Is your working directory local to your pc ?

I too use Windows 7 on my primary computer but with 4GB of memory. I keep the native Windows CPU Meter gadet on my dekstop. If I see the memory usage get to 75% + like this, I know that the xLights performance may suffer.

There was hardly any changes between 4.1.6 and 4.1.7 that would cause you to not be able to do anything. If you want help you need to help us out. Try 4.1.8. If that doesn't work then try 4.1.6. And when you say you cannot do anything that's not specific enough. That gives me no clue whether you can even open the program, can you open a sequence, can you change your show directory. What exactly are you trying to do that you cannot do?
-
Just down loaded 4.1.18 models not working in layout and I get nothing on my house preview window when playing back a sequence did i miss some thing everything worked in 4.1.17
When I go into my models I will pull up my blue mini tree 1 I hit modify then I select part of my display I click ok when I go back to the models there is nothing there, in the sequence I am working on all of my effects are in the sequence but when I pull up view house the screen is blank on playback

4.1.8 worked for me :) back to playing, not sure what happened with 4.17 download all others worked except for some crashes, ect. that are already being worked on.
Thankyou Joe

Just to try and help? I could open 4.17 which then i could click on tabs but I couuld not do anything from there. As I originally reported it gave me a bug report but I could not find it in the program files. I thought I read somewhere how to do it , but i cannot find it at this time. Is there a sticky someplace that will explain how to do it or are the reports automatically sent.

We will never try to transmit anything from your PC back to us. When it crashes there should be 2 dialogs and the second one tells you the location of the zip file.
-
I have only had it crash a few times. So the next time it happens i will watch for the info. Then do i just post it here for you guys?
-
Yes just attach the zip file.

Hello Jo,
The debug report should be in the show directory - what directory do you have set ? (click on the setup tab - it should tell u there)
Now if it crashes neatly , you will get a popup message at the end if after u say okay telling u exactly where it goes and the name etc. If u cancel the first message , u wont get a debug report
Now , if it does not crash neatly, but still manages to create a debug report (eg if it says xlights has stopped working etc) , then it goes into a temp directory (cause the copy to the show directory has failed) . In my case the temp directory is D:\users\gerry\Appdata\local\temp\ (or something very similar)
The debug is a zip file xLights_dbgrpt-nnnn-nnnnnnnn.zip
Hope this helps.
