Title: Null Output
Post by: gerry on July 05, 2015, 05:58:40 PM
Quote (4.1.19)
So with this release you can define a block of channel with no controller. You still create models and everything the same. After saving the sequence to an fseq file you send it to the FPP usb flash drive where your show will run from.

So in summary, NULL controllers are for people who have P10 matrix panels and allows you to basically allocate a pile of channels so models work.

My question:
When defining the Null output on the setup tab , how do I specify which Universes of channels should be defined for the Null output option ?
For example , in my setup the P10 Panels (for the BBB) are in Universes 30 to 53 and starts from Channel 11800.
If I Click on Add Null , it only requests for a number of channels and adds this to the end of the channels that I have already defined ie there does not appear to be an option to define the Universe number.
Similarly , I cannot click on an existing row defined as e1.31 (ie Uinverse 30 to 53 rows) and change to Null

I guess I could delete several rows (30 to 55) , allocate a block of Null channels and then add back E1.31 universes after that (54 and 55) . Is it how this should be used ?

No setup info from xlights is ever sent to Fpp. You must define your universes in the Fpp config screen. So your block of null controller channels will be redefined when u get over to Fpp. I always just delete all and re-enter since it only takes 5 seconds to define all my channels

Yeah so I guess technically we all could just define one huge NULL output and never deal with universes in xLights as long as we know how to map the channel numbers in the FPP.

Which I guess also means you can't use a NULL output if you are planning on driving the lights from xLights.

Thank you Sean and Gil,

How it works is slowly getting clearer now. Am new to both xL and FP this year. . I thought they had to match.

What I had done , was setup everything in xLights exactly as required (ie all universes and channels mapped) and then on the FP screen set up everything exactly the same (as I was not sure about how things worked).

Then tested a full xL sequence with two elements connected via xLights output and then tested the same seq via the FP. Was happy with the outcome :)

At some stage will look at the colors output more carefully (based on recent RGB qn posts) as a good chunk of my sequences are a mixture of {LSP import to data layer + xl models added} .

EDIT: I had thought (from reading previous comments last week) that the NULL option was only for use on the FP that runs the BBB to which the panels were connected  ::).

Yeah the NULL option was to keep you from having to define a boatload of universes in xLights.

I literally had a boat load of universes last year, and will have more this year and I don't need no stinkin null outputs!

I would prefer that "Whole House" model be renamed to "Whole Show" model, but I'm not complaining.

Do you use the Marine version of xLights/Nutcracker?  I think it does use the term "Whole Boat."

Funny Steve.  Everyone should be switching to Model Groups instead of Whole House models anyways.
