Post by: therealbigjim on July 13, 2015, 01:14:24 PM
How to I share my work between my laptop and desktop. Ill do work on the laptop save it on a jump drive and when I open it on my desktop I get models not found error. Same with work from the desktop to the laptop.

If you transfer the whole show directory it will work unless you have links to media outside that directory.  At a minimum you should copy over the xlights_rgbeffects.xml, xlights_networks.xml, xlights_keybindings.xml and your sequence XML files.

You can also use Google Drive, Dropbox, etc to keep your show folder synced between the 2 computers.
USB/Sneakernet is sooo 2014 :)

I copy the whole show directory to my thumb drive as Gil has stated.  Works fine.
Sneakernet is my preferred method, old habits die hard.  LOL  I'm still not much of a cloud user except for exchanging large files with other people, although I have multiple cloud accounts.

I am often moving between three different computers and use my iCloud account where I save all the Xlights files. Works very well. Dropbox, Onedrive etc would do the same. However, I think its a good idea to keep backups of the xlights_rgbeffects.xml, xlights_networks.xml, xlights_keybindings.xml files in a separate place every now and again as cloud storage systems overwrite and update files on all your devices everytime you make a change. So  it is possible if on one device you somehow muck up, say, your xlights_rgbeffects.xml file, for example, and save it to the cloud, all the other devices will be updated with that bad file (speaking from experience here  ::)  ).

Thank you for the answers. My laptop does not usually have internet access, ( unless I go sit out side My buddy's Lock Shop and soak up his wifi.) But I try the Goggle drive and see how that's works.
