Title: Groups not exporting
Post by: ShellNZ on August 08, 2015, 11:50:12 PM
I have quite a few props that I have made as a Group in XLights.

For example I have 33 minitrees.  I have put them in a group called Minitrees.  When I do an effect on the group it works beautifully, however when I try to export to LOR nothing comes out.  I have had a play around and it seems that goes with ALL groups.  So again, I have 9 pixel steps in a group called Steps.  I put pattern on group, works well in XL, cant export to LOR.

All of my "complicated" props where I have have to split the model drawing over the whole house are also in groups.  So e.g house outline is a group.  Xlights great, but cant export to LOR.

I would also like to see if this is possible... (I know, that I "should" use XL for running the show...) But for the sake of humor, is there a way to grab the effects on the discrete models when sequencing in a group to export to LOR ?

Hi Shell,

So you wish to do some sort of cross border raiding ?  :) :) :) :)

lol, yep, as I and many others did last year....however....I have late last night decided to make the big jump (for me anyway) to XL4.  Completely over switching between them all the time and not getting anywhere.  With the number of pixels I have I would be silly to continue with LOR, especially when LOR Vis is total crap at displaying all my pixels running.

That is great news ! If you could do such wonderful shows with LOR , I can but imagine the outcome with XL :)

Welcome fellow ship jumper. After setting sail again this year with the RMS LSP a few months ago and seeing icebergs all around me, I saw the USS XL4 flying past at great speed and made a swim for it.  ;D

What I love is the posts we get that go along the lines of "I'm thinking of switching all my stuff over to xLights.  Should I do that or just add effects in xLights and then export back to LOR?  What's the best way?"  I laugh thinking try sending Bill Gates an email asking whether you should stick with Microsoft OS or switch to Apple.  Or better yet...post the question on the LOR forum...lol.

Yeah I wasn't talking about you....I saw a post on FB like that the other day.  We should get the model group export fixed even though you may not need it anymore.

If you want to help, tell them to run away from LOR. ;D

I agree with this.. I have way too much in LOR that I don't have time to change over to XL4.. The export would be so amazingly helpful.. And very soon

I can understand feeling that you must hold on to the hundreds of hours that you invested in LOR sequences.  There is also a sense of mistrust that keeps you from believing that you can create something better in xlights in just an hour.

Break the shackles. Jump in with both feet.  Walk forward and don't look back.  Use metaphors to make your point.  Try it, you'll like it.

And you don't need to delete your LOR sequences... so you'll have a safety net.

Exactly what I did. I made the decision in January and left. I'm still able to use elements that were done in lor (superstar). But, for the most part I started over. Best decision I made and wish I would have done it sooner.

Mine is a matter of time.. I am running out. I have so much already programmed and I do it with a lot of precision, so I need the granular control that I have in LOR.. As well, there is a hardware issue.  I have no input capability in XL like with LOR.   I have also had crashes with XL4 that I don't have with LOR.

Bottom line is that next year I might just switch.. but no time this year.. so the group model export would be soooooo incredibly helpful.

Now I'm thinking we just should never fix it.  I feel like we are helping people continue with their bad habits...lol.

I'm a LOR user who is a chase, fade control freak.  If I didn't have these issues the conversion would be easier.  It don't think it will happen this year but I can see it happening in 2016.

So normally an export contains a block of channels so what are we supposed to do if you have big gaps in between all the models in the group?  Exports don't have channel numbers associated with them.  You could theoretically end up with every channel in your sequence if we had to include all the in-between channels.  We were just trying to figure out how to handle this as I was asking Dan about it.
