Since upgrade 4.2 the icon on Layout for Whole House is gone, or is just on my computer?
Help please.
Thanks

It's much easier to use the group function which I believe did replace the building of the whole house model.

Create a Model Group and add all the models to it that you want to be in the whole house model. Then use that model group to sequence. The benefit is that you can then make changes to the group representing your whole house model. With the old method you could never change it again so we deleted that option.

I just did that, thanks :-)

Oh ok, I thought I was going crazy because I didn't see anything saying it was removed :-)
But all good. Works fine, better actually ;-)
Thank you

My fault.... I needed the screen real-estate to add the sliders for handling the separate scaling for X and Y directions. I saw that button there and decided it was now useless so removed it to free up space. :-)

Don't mind me, the new X Y function is awesome :-)

Does each group model allow you to re-arrange the elements independent of other group models?
e.g. could I swap around items from left to right, or flip them over etc in say group 1 to work with
and in group 2 have them the way they are "supposed" to be?
and in a group 3 have them totally differently arranged again?
-
No you can't have different arrangements with the model groups feature because they dynamically update. That was only possible with the whole house model feature that was deleted. Were you using that method?

In the two "Grid" model setups, no. In the other two, yes.

I guess I have no idea how it works either. I thought all model groups were dynamic.

They are. Just the Horizontal/Vertical by model options use the order of the models in the group when creating their buffers. That's the reason (one of) that the "Models in group" list has the ability to move models up/down.
As an example, say you have 5 pixel candy canes, each with 25 pixels. With the "Grid" options, you'd have them placed on a 400x grid based on the preview. That's awesome for some effects. However, for others, that's not ideal. For example, a morph going "up" would go up the candy cane till partway up and then the bottom of the hook would start and continue up meeting at the top. And if the canes are staggered in the preview, it wouldn't work well at all.
Instead for the Vertical, you would instead get a 25 wide by 5 tall buffer. (this would be identical to 5 25pixel arches) A morph to the right would loop up all the canes and then around the hook. The Horizontal is a 5 wide by 25 tall so the morph up would work. A "Single strand skips" effect would work well on the Vertical alignment as it would look just like it does on the arches.
In anycase, the "order" of the models would affect which order the canes would be added to the buffer. Thus, you can have different groups with different orders.
Hope that explains it.

So I just downloaded the newest version of Xlights all my models are gone, even my groups what am I missing?
-
Assuming you were upgrading from a fairly recent version nothing really should have changed. Installing a new version doesn't write to any of the Show Directory files. Models gone can mean different things to me. Are they gone from the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file? Are they just not showing up in the Layout screen? If so are they in the list if you hit the Models button? If they are truly gone from the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file then somehow that file is getting corrupted.

Gil I have been current on all new uploads when I downloaded the latest version all my models have disappeared, they are not in my layout or in my models or in any groups, anything I can check, they are in my xlights_rgbeffects.xml file, they are just not showing up in my layout screen I hit the model list and nothing is showing up.

Never mind had a brain fart, in talking with Sean last night I moved my RGBeffects file to my desk top and failded to move it back all is good. Duh

So you on this case you have 3 models for the same candy canes. But only one on your whole house setup?

Thought I'd add a bit of 'caution' when using Whole House (WH)Models with XL4.2.2:
I had been using several WH models to sequence, but when that feature was removed I didn't think it would effect my sequencing. They still worked if you had created them before the change. All's good!
But I had to make a few Model changes (change channel number to get more out of the current set of controllers). As you know, the WH models were "off" because of the channel numbers were changed. Curtains and Fans. etc. in the WH models were effected. So I convert all of my WH models to Model Groups.
Model groups work great and are resilient to model mods. I changed all of my WH models to Models Groups and all is well. Took no time at all. I've since made mods to a model and the change was transparent to the sequence.
Thanks for the Model Group feature !! REMEMBER TO BACKUP before you make any changes!!
BTW: a quick explanation of grid size would be helpful: default is 400x400 pixels, the model groups can change that?
