I'm playing with the xLights test feature with different colors and googling RGB color codes but what i'm finding for codes doesn't come close to what is outputted in the lights. An example is orange. Or is it more of a try and see?

For anything but the primary colors (RGB) I've found that it's pretty much try and see. Each pixel type is also slightly different. I have found orange particularly hard to get right - my wife says it has a green tinge. Turn down the green and it starts looking red. Arrgh!

Thanks. Orange (255,25,0) is a guess in xLights.

I have not been able to match the color codes from the sequencer into the test at all. I am trying for a nice pink, 255-105-180, however when i put that color into the test mode under RGB, it comes out almost white. Why does this happen?

Because your pixels don't have a linear response to the colour intensities. Dimming curves can help
