I thought I was following the directions clearly but when I am on a playlist I created and hit the Custom Script button from the playlist drop down it doesn't do as it says in the help document "If this option is elected for a playlist, the BASIC language scripts used to run the playlist is displayed." Now I don't know what it means by elected as I didn't an election part...only the drop down option to select Custom Script from the playlist menu. The only thing I see when I hit Custom Script from the playlist menu are Playback Options. So I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
If we can figure out what I'm doing incorrectly there, I was wondering if anyone has set this up with an EDM RDS device using their serial cable and had script as well as a setup example they could point me at. It would be much appreciated! Thank you so much!

I'm happy to say that I figured this out. It just wasn't super clear. The problem is that when you select custom script button in the playlist menu it just shows the Playback Options check boxes. As this is not something I was wanting to select anything for I just went ahead and clicked the X in the right corner to close that box thinking it would close the options and then the script window would open. Well that wasn't the case...it just closed the box. Had it closed the box and opened the script window even when I hit the X I wouldn't ever have posted here :) I kept tinkering with it and noticed if I selected one of the boxes for the Playback Options and then hit OK it would open the script window, but with the option script I had selected. I then realized what was happening. I closed out of xLights and reopened everything to test my theory and once again just closing the Playback Options with the X did not open the script window. But opening the Playback Options, not selecting anything, but hitting OK rather than X closed the options box and revealed the script window. Success!!
So, I know you're not really developing this side of xLights any longer as a lot of you have migrated over to FPP, and I'm also pursuing that path but making sure I have backup options just in case :) But my thoughts are that you should really improve the user experience with this portion of the playlist setup...if you have the time, of course, and it's worth while. I'm all for the continued improvement of the sequencer as a priority :) It was just super confusing to get the script window to reveal itself :) Thanks again for all of your hard work :)

The last time anyone worke don the scripting language in xLights player was 2011 The author of that code is Matt Brown Matt left the xlights team one year ago to join LOR He has not been involved in xLights 4 (release date of XL4 was March , 2015)
It is very unlikely that any of the current developers will do any work on the scripting engine inside of xlights.
The FPP player far exceeds any capability that the xlights scheduler has, the FPP can drive 500K channels, xlights can prob drive 60-80K channels. You can have multiple FPP's , each playing a moview .etc, .etc
All of us are using FPP as our show player.
We can, however , try to document the whole scripting engine better in the user manual.
back in 2012 and 2013 i do know of people who did use the scripting language in xlights to do things like send RDS text, play a single movie. The scheduler in xlights is rock solid and has been used for nearly 5 years.
What more can you ask for than it works as advertised.
thanks

Sean, I completely agree, understand and was aware of the development history. That is why I mentioned the FPP side...I'm a FPP user as well, but I always like to have a backup when possible :) So I was mainly mentioning this for your awareness. A documentation supplement would most definitely be the easiest fix for this :)
Thanks again for all of your and the teams hard work!
