Title: Highlighting all nodes of a display item
Post by: dwetzel on October 28, 2015, 02:42:11 PM
I am using Xlights version 4.2.18 and I have 40 nodes on my display item. It is a custom small spinner with 8 legs and 5 nodes per leg. When I toggle the nodes 22 are shown in the window, the window doesn't scroll when I go to highlight all the nodes. How do highlight the nodes not shown in the window to start with?

Highlight top item...let go of mouse....scroll down....shift select bottom item.

What are you trying to do as an effect that requires you to work at the node level?

I'm not getting the hang of it, I"ll keep  trying.

As Gil asked, why are you at the node level? What are you trying to do?

I want to stagger each of the node one at time with a solid color to check that i wired it correctly.

Use the test tab, select the nodes there.

I guess I should ask what exactly were you trying to highlight?  I assumed you meant you wanted to highlight cells on the sequencer grid after you expanded a model to see all the nodes.  For the steps I gave you need a timing track active and you click the cells to select them or any effects in their contents.

I want to stagger each of the node one at time with a solid color to check that i wired it correctly.

You could do that by placing a marquee effect on the model.  Set band size to 1, skip size to 1, and use 1 color.
Meh nevermind I didn't read it right.  You want to stagger in time.

Gilrock, I have a timing marks on my sequence. I got it to work one time with part of the nodes, but couldn"t get all of the nodes highlighted at the same time.

Well there's no way to place an On effect staggered on each node unless you do an Alt drag of all the effects and you can't do that unless all the effects fit on the visible screen.

I can get all the node highlighted now but when I select the ALT key to drag, it deselects the nodes. Again I must be doing something wrong, I'll keep trying. I see you replied before I posted this.

You hold down ALT and drag the bottom right effect's edge.

I got it working with 2 groups of 20, but as you said Gilrock it only works with what is in the window. Can this be a future enhancement to work all highlighted nodes?

There's a better chance I may provide a way to select a region and then drop down a chase.  That drag logic depends on a lot of infrastructure that only works on visible rows.

Thanks for all your help Gilrock, you were very quick with responses. Also the responses of others. Whatever can be done to select beyond the window to chase will be helpful.

At risk of hijacking...   I know I have seen a video or a post explaining how to grab, for example, all six of my arches and move them from one timing mark to another..   I have been trying different key strokes without any success.  Not sure...   I know there is a way to do this!

Try this - Highlighting a block of effects and holding shift will allow you reposition that block of effects
when you drag the block. I found it in a pdf document that was posted in the forum. I have attached it.

THANK YOU!!!     I'll try that tonight when I get home.   I wasn't actually sure "how" to search on this question, so I posed it on the forum.  I really appreciate this info.   There are so many times I need to move all six of my arches, all my mini tress, etc etc......
