Title: Imported LOR channels - Can't change them
Post by: thevikester on November 02, 2015, 02:37:20 PM
I've imported some LOR channels, primarily my coro faces and some snowflakes..I've been trying to change some of the effects of snowflakes, just simple on and off...can't over ride the existing for some reason, and when I put in new timings, it seems to  have a mind of its own...I can turn them off, render, save, and they turn back on...or I can have an ON for a small timing, and it will fill in the adjacent timings randomly...any ideas on this...am I doing something or missing something that could cause this.
Seems pretty straight forward, have no issues manipulating the rest of the sequence, but the AC channels are a disaster right now....Thanks

There are a ton of things in your description that aren't clear because we have multiple ways you can do things.  Like when you say you imported channels I don't know if you imported them using the conversion tab, or as a data layer, or imported them as effects.  You said you put in new timings and turn them off and they turn back on.  I assume you mean you are dropping OFF effects because timings can't be turned on/off.  When you say they turn back on is the OFF effect gone?  You said adjacent timing fill in randomly like you get new effects showing up on the sequencer grid?  xLights has no idea the difference between an A/C channel versus anything else so as far as placing effects it will work the same.  Under settings is your Render Mode set to Erase mode?

Gil...Render mode is set to erase mode..  its not the timings that disappear or reappear, it is the effect of either on or off...that populates...and I can't manipulate.  Lets say I put the OFF effect where there were lights on...I render it, and it comes right back on...

I believe I did it as data layers...I'm trying to find my post that I asked the question...and I believe you answered me on this...in regards to bringing over the LOR channels...

Was definitely data layers...

Where are you seeing it come back on?  Is it the node data showing up or the actual lights in playback or the real hardware?

Its on the Sequencer layout, and the playback of the models/house model...Its not hooked up to hardware.  I have no ability to overwrite anything that was brought over .

Here are the instructions that I followed :
If you have an open sequence goto the Settings menu, select Sequence Settings, select the Data Layer tab, click the Import button, make sure filetype is LMS, select your LMS file, wait for the text "<wait for file conversion>" to change to a number of channels and you can see status messages in the lower left corner. After its completes close the dialog and hit the Green Gear icon to force a Render All. Now you can preview the imported data. You won't see effects on the grid but it you expand a model to the node level you should see the effect data.

It is on the Node data...when I click into the faces for example, there are several nodes under there. I can put the Off effect on the timing, update,F5, render, and it will still show up as being on.

Or on the 1 node only models, like a snowflake, 1 channel, click into it...place the Off effect onto the grid where lights were shown on....and update, render, some appear to turn off, while others just come back on.

I would suspect channel overlaps in your model definition.  Other than that I have no idea unless what you are seeing in the node data isn't real.  I've seen it where it didn't appear to be updating correctly.

IF it weren't the first 48 channels, I would be apt to believe in overlap, but there is nothing else there...I had 48 LOR channels, and that's it, and that's what I have on xlights.   I'm going to hope the node data isn't real...will hook up in a couple of weeks, so will no for sure at that time.  Thanks Gil

Yes your number of channels match but that doesn't mean you didn't create 2 models that point to the same channel.  If you did then you could drop an effect on one that would affect the other depending on the render order you've defined.

I get what you are saying, but no, that's not the case unfortunately...I went back over the model #'s  just to make sure before I posted my question.  I'm usually pretty good with troubleshooting the basics.  :)

The only other thing I can suggest is if you can post your files somewhere and when someone gets time we can look into it.  But in your case we would also need the ISEQ file for the data layer data so that file may be large.

In the Data layer section , the layer sequence is still the default ie Nutcracker on the top and then your imported data layer below it ?
