Ok so I thought I would upgrade to the latest release from .16 to .18 Now during playback all of my models from the layout have disappeared and don't playback effects via models. All of the effects are in the elements in the sequence...all of the details for the models are still there like pixel numbers channels etc....
What file is your layout stored in maybe I can do something here..help

Hi Zane,
I had the same problem when upgrading at the weekend. I was unable to find the lost models, even with the help of somebody else. My solution was to re-create them all again.

Upgrading the code does not touch the files that hold the models. They are held in the xlight_rgbeffects.xml file in your show directory of which you should have been making backups.
-
I made a copy of my show directory and replaced it with the copy after the upgrade was nor showing my models. So yes I did back it up. The only models that show up are the models I designed.
-
What other models are supposed to show up other than the ones you designed?
-
I have about 15 120 volt models and 5. 50 pixel arches. A 140 pixel star which is made up of 3 stars which took alot of time to layout.
-
Well it sounds like you designed those also that's why your statement confused me. You can open up the xml file you backed up and if the models are there you will see the names in the models section. If they aren't there then you never saved your models when you exited the program. Saving the sequence and saving models are two different questions we ask when you exit.

If you ever need to make a new multi layered star use the Star Layer Sizes box under the star model (bottom of the model screen right above the buttons). A three layered, 100 node star would be entered as 50,30,20. Now your star model is automatically created. No need to spend time doing a custom layout.
-
ok let me rephrase, ..it is two smaller stars on inside the other with a ten arm'd star like asterisk with 4 bursts on it
-
It you attach your backup file of the xlights_rgbeffects.xml we can look and see what models are in it. It's readable as a text file but viewed easiest in something like Notepad++.
-
Ok so I attached a copy of the file...I did reload .18 and put the backed up file in its place and still don't have all my models
-
So here are all the models and model group names from your file. Those are going to be the only ones that will show up. Do you have additional ones that are lost or are the names in this list?

By the way you have this model group selected and none others so these are the only models you will see on the layout screen. I don't think you lost any models you just hid them.
<modelGroup name="Spiral Tree's 1-6" models="Spiral Tree 1,Spiral Tree 2,Spiral Tree 3,Spiral Tree 4,Spiral Tree 5,Spiral Tree 6" layout="grid" GridSize="400" selected="1"/>
-
Your right Gil I can only see my spiral trees how do I fix it cause I went in models tried to copy let's say arch and nothing Duplicated on my display care to team view email me direct at z_special@hotmail.com
-
On the layout tab just hit the Model Groups button then unselect all the checkboxes then we will show you all the models that have Part of My Display checked. You must have clicked that checkbox to get it into this state.

Well if it works I appreciate your help I'm at work and can't get to my laptop for an hour and a half
