Title: A noob question on setting and copying effects
Post by: redding43 on November 30, 2015, 05:42:36 AM
I'm about a week in to the experience so please forgive me not using the correct terminology and for asking basic questions.....

My setup is a simple one, I am unsung nutcracker to connect to control dumb RGBs connected to 4 x 6 channel controllers. In other words each controller is running two separate RGB LED 5050 300 led strips and the controllers are connected in a DMX daisy chain.

My first quests though is a more basic one on setting effects. The song I want to use has a steady marching beat to it for a minute or so and I want 4 Windows (2 on each side of my house) to alternate left right along with the beat. I can set these up and have them running for a few seconds but is it possible, and if so how, to copy that effect for the remainder of the minute without having to manually copy and paste each individual channel into the time line against each beat?

My second question is, of all the prebuilt effects, which ones are ideal for my setup? ie the fact that I have 5050 led strips that will generally be placed around Windows and doors

Thanks in advance

I don't think  NC supports multiple pastes (end/bottom) like LOL.

You can copy/paste multiple effects across models in xLights.

The easiest way is to turn off any active timing track that you might be using.  This will allow you to click and drag a yellow box around multiple effects to highlight them (lines turn magenta in color when highlighted).  Control C to copy this group of effects.  If you want to paste them in place to a timing mark, now would be good time to turn the timing track back on.  Click in the cell where you want the effects to start and Control V to paste.  As long as there aren't other effects in the way the highlighted group should paste just fine.  Once you have a group that repeats, copy and past that group until the end of the song if that is what you want.

Take a look a the Wiki tab at the top of this forum.  A lot of good information in there.  Video tutorials and a user manual.
