Title: how to video my lights
Post by: babybear on November 30, 2015, 05:16:24 PM
Well my show is tweaked up and running. I want to film it but what is the best way? My phone looks to blurry as the lights are too bright.

Disclaimer - my reply is not going to be helpful (i can't film my lights on my phone either unless I change the angle i'm filming at for the different display items).

I would call the local TV station, tell them you have an AWESOME light show raising money for a local charity and want them to come out and do a plug for you. Then the film guys show up and you get a semi pro video done !

Get a drone. They are cool and make great aerial shots of your display.

May not apply you your phone but discovered on my phone ( iPhone 6) that when in camera mode, by holding your finger on the screen, a lock of the focus and aperture type setting kicks in. So you don't get the phone losing focus during dark bits of the sequence. Also I lock the settings with the house fully lit and then find that you get better definition of the lights while filming the sequence.

This is good to know, and I verified that it works on the iPhone 4 too.  My iPhone is the only option I have this year to record the show for out-of-state family members who want to see it, and this information will come in handy.
