Title: Moving Files from one year to another
Post by: danj on December 29, 2015, 02:30:49 PM
I have started laying out what we are going to do for Christmas 2016 and I was wondering if I am thinking correctly about how to do the files.   Here's what I am thinking.    Figured I would ask in case there is a better way....

1. Setup new show directory (e.g., 2016 Christmas)
2. Copy/paste xml files from the current show directory into the new show directory
3. ...Not sure if I need to copy/paste the RGBEFFECTS & NETWORKS files or not...   My models will be pretty significantly different next year compared to this year--replacing AC minitrees with RGB minitrees, adding two megatrees, six more arches, & adding ~10-14 North poles.   So I think that would be a moot point??   I am continuing to use the existing megatrees and existing arches, so it might be a valid point to copy/paste these files too...

THANKS in advance.
And, thanks to the dev team guys for this wonderful software and for all the time you put in to help others--that is VERY MUCH appreciated!!!

I would move it all and then pare down or change as you make actual progress.  Don't forget images and music files as well (unless you keep those in a centralized directory).  IMHO.

Thanks for the reply.   I was planning to just leave my music files where they are now, which is last year's directory.  I probably should just put them in a really centralized location.  Good point on pics.   The "pointer" in the sequence will stay the same though, right?   So I shouldn't have to move those files anywhere??

Correct.  I move my pics and open the xml files do a global change to the path because invariably I make adjustments to the pictures that make last year's sequences look funny if I try to run with modified pics.
