Title: Tennessee Spring Mini
Post by: Ron Boyd on January 26, 2016, 04:38:20 PM
Tennessee Spring Mini

All are invited, not just the folks from TN.

WHEN: Saturday, March 19, 2016

WHERE: Cleveland, TN (Just north of Chattanooga off of I-75)

3787 Blue Springs Road in Cleveland, TN

TIME: TBD (typically 9 am – 4 pm)

We’ll take up $$ for lunch, usually pizza.

Agenda to follow.
We'll be bouncing around a few ideas over the next week or so and will update then. Since all of us, it seems, had some sort of problem, or as we lovingly called it "Gremlins" this year, a lessons learned topic will probably be in there somewhere.

Ideas? If there's anything you'd like to talk about, post about it here and we'll put it on the list.

I'm going to try to make it!  Last year was my first time coming (and my first year doing Christmas lights).  It was very informative and I really enjoyed meeting everyone!

Here are some things I'd like to learn or get advice about:

* Projection Mapping on house - Which software? - Is VPT7 (free) adequate for our hobby?
* Using projectors with FPP (planning to possibly do a Virtual Santa this year)
* Selecting the right projector:  Good/bad choices based on others' experiences & maybe some recommendations
* P10 panels/Octoscrollers/BBB (Beagle bone black) - Using them with FPP - Weatherproofing / enclosure ideas
* Xlights / FPP: New features

I'm also excited about the new power distribution board and the pi hat thingy to run pixels from the pi.  Hopefully we can get a sneak peek at some of those!

Unless someone has ventured into the projection mapping that I don't know of, don't know if that could be a topic. I know I don't have a clue about. Awesome tech, but I'm clueless as to where to even start.

Edit.

By the way, I didn't mean the last statement like I wasn't interested, just that I don't think any of us know anything about it. I am definitely interested. My show is about as big as it's ever gonna be. The only place I can go is up or, do something like projection mapping.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if anyone had tried any projection mapping, but I figured I'd mention it. I was just throwing some ideas out there.

The projection stuff seems very cool & the effects are just about limitless, but the projectors are really expensive.  ...and the software is even worse!  The good packages are priced over $1000!   :o

I'm hoping I can find a decent projector to play around with & use the free VPT7 software.  That's my kind of price!   ;)
