Title: New ability
Post by: z_special on March 15, 2016, 03:26:55 PM
One thing I wish xlights could do is scrub the audio when sequencing.  I find this extremely helpful when adding timing marks.  Not sure how others feel about this.

And how do you expect the scrubbing to be initiated?

Let me know when you figure this one out. I love me some scrubbing in Adobe Premiere! LOL
For me, the timings work great along with slow playback.

I was waiting for you to figure it out. :)  Its easy to have an idea but a lot harder to think about the details of implementing that idea.  Currently the only mechanism I see is it could scrub when you are dragging out a selection in the waveform.  There is no other time when I think it would be appropriate to assume you want to hear sound.

That is exactly what I did to get my Chromaflakes to sync with the bells in the music. I would alternate different timings in a section of music to get me close. Then I played the section over and over at the slowest speed to fine tune. It takes time but to me this is fun. Besides it's open source magic. Who every complains about free magic??? LOL

Personally I've never been able to adjust timings to my liking unless running at full speed.

I set the timings at full speed but slow down the music for placement and test at full speed for 16th note intricate ryrhms.bl Being a drummer precision is important to me but the artistry in lighting is more about feel.

Audacity has a scrubber tool, ctl-left click. drag across waveform, hear music. I personally also find it easier to set timing marks at full speed.

I showed my wife how to play the wave files at slower speeds, she prefers setting timing at full speed also. She is a musician also (violin and piano) , not sure if that helps her hear the timing clearer.

It would be nice for some folks if we had a scrubber, i dont know if any of our developers would need it. The priority of developers is usually for things that we can use in our shows.

The scrubber tool in Audacity is a little jerky when i tried it (Audacity 2.1.2)

I'm sorry I am not a programmer and was not as descriptive as I should have been.  To scrub the audio in the waveform by pressing the left click and dragging thru the section you would like to here.  I use this at times to adjust timing marks or add new ones....It was a ability available thru LSP
