Title: Lor import Oddities
Post by: Ebuechner on March 26, 2016, 12:03:58 PM
I'm going to assume that this might be a bug because of the odd behavior. I go to Imports an Lor sequence into xlights everything happens as it should. When I go to play the imported sequence all of the effects are in the wrong places on the preview screen also on the wrong models enough timing grid. But somehow their output into the correct physical models. When I try to put new effects on the models they're overlapping with other models. And now if I open other sequences created exclusively in X lights everything is all screwed up

I'm going to assume you are doing something wrong or don't understand the import features.

To get help you are going to have to give more information. Start with the version of xlights. Include your files, the 3 xlights xml files and your sequence xml file. What exactly are you importing, a superstar file, lms?  I always suggest adding as a data layer first. If this doesn't work, then go no further, you have something wrong with the files you are importing or your setup and models aren't correct.

If you haven't read the manual or watched the plethora of videos, do so.

I did figure out a good part of my problem. Before I imported I added and moved 3 LOR controllers to the beginning of my channel count in xlights to get my channels to line up with LOR. It seems as though the LOR controllers are given priority in sequence editor no matter where I put them in LORs channel lineup it Imports with them ahead of all the DMX. And if I add it to the beginning of the channels in xlights it messes up everything else

The channels will be from 1 to xxx.  Each model references specific channels.  So yes, if you add channels to the beginning, you will mess things up.  You will have to go to each model and reassign the correct starting channel.

Most put their LOR stuff at the beginning.  Nothing is stopping you from changing your LOR channel assignments, then import.  It sounds like you need to plan this out a little better.

Do a conversion with the verbose channel mapping box checked and then you can verify the channel assignments.

When I import some of my old LOR sequences as a data layer, they come in "offset" by 2 universes (1024 channels). Rather than fix in LOR, I put a -1024 in the data layer offset field. That fixes it perfectly.

You might have a similar offset error of 512. Easy to try.

Oh, the way I figured that out was by creating a matrix with dimensions of 256x16, starting at channel 1. Then I could see where it was really importing by counting the rows. My LOR channel 1 was displaying on the 5th row instead of the first.

With a lot of back-and-forth I eventually got everything to match all 11547 channels. But it's a pain adding the Lor controller to Xlights having to change all the models from there DMX Channel assignments to the xlights channel number. Which means if I want to add to universe 10 because physically in the display it works out it's no longer as easy.

Trying to make the program play perfectly with LOR is a pain in the ass.  Once you decide to let go of whatever you are holding onto which is usually some sequencing you think you can't live without because of the number of hours you put into it things will become less of a pain.  I had to make that choice so I know what it means.  At some point my show was changing enough that trying to keep the LOR data and expand my show wasn't worth the hassle.  We do our best to make the transition easier and we do things to improve that all the time.  We are the only ones that try to have a sequencer that can import/export to all other sequencers.

One of the things that I'm dealing with is 3 LOR controllers that I would like to use. If I use them and DMX mode twinkle and Shimmer look like crap. And I've tried with xlights and I can't get a good Shimmer or twinkle out of it. Could this be my channel count? I have everything going out on a E1:31 dedicated Network. Xlights does not seem to load down my processor like Lor does but I find the grid sequencing in lor handy for some things that I do. I guess I'm at a Crossroads

You can mimic the lor grid in xlights. Create a bunch of timing marks to your specific interval.
