Title: Volume Mixer settings on Windows
Post by: KenKol on April 13, 2016, 06:01:52 AM
Just curious and I may be the only one to see this, but in the volume mixer settings from the toolbar in windows my Xlights volume is so huge that the slider for volume cannot be shown (see the pic). I was wondering if this happens to others or is it just my computer. Right now I am on 2016.9 but this has happened since I installed Xlights. If this is just me, then I can try to figure it out through other avenues.

I haven't looked lately.  I know we talked about this issue last year among the developers telling Sean about it.  I thought it had been resolved but I haven't tried lately to see.

Wow, I'd never even looked. If I expand the window horizontally, I can see the shoulder and part of the Nutcracker head. No sign of the actual slider.

We don't really understand why windows does not pick up the right sized icon all the time.

Interesting note on this issue. Whenever I install the latest release, the Volume mixer icon is small for the first run of the program, but every subsequent running, the icon is huge. Wierd that the first running produces a small icon, but after that it is back to being huge.

I've never even had to open that volume mixer.  Does xlights really need to be set differently for it's volume?

It does if you are using it on zoom and sharing pc audio. For some reason it is super loud.

Are you using a build that you built today?   I made some changes to the Frame icon that might have fixed it.

Yeah so maybe you've fixed it.  I tried 2016.34 and it does show big like everyone else.  Is there a Github issue we can close? lol.

Sorry for what may be a stupid question , but
1. How do you get that xlights volume icon to show ... I don't think I have ever seen it iie I always get only the Windows audio thingy icon.
2. Even if found, what would it be used for ?

I use a headphone plugged into the laptop/ pc .. When sequencing  xlights.

In 2016_36 the volume mixer settings are finally fixed. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in on this!

To address the questions, I use mine at work sometimes when an Idea pops into my head. With the old volume icon being so big, I couldn't lower the volume on just the Xlights while leaving the Speakers, system sounds, skype and my desktop IP phone interaction at certain levels for my daily work. I would have to lower all the volumes collectively to bring Xlights to a reasonable level to avoid blasting Christmas music from my office. I had finally gotten used to this and was able to "estimate" where the slider was on the Xlights large icon and "grab" it to adjust it. to get it to "show" click the speaker icon on the bottom left bar near the clock and click on Mixer. All the "sound using" programs should be listed there.

Again, Thanks from my work mates for allowing me to NOT blast Christmas music in June!!

Thanks .

Did not even know that such a thing existed despite being a Windows user for donkeys years.

Embarrassed to say that I have always only moved the one sound slider up and down or mute.
