Title: Missing the model export
Post by: jnealand on May 01, 2016, 06:34:59 PM
I use the export models to csv a lot when I am converting a shared sequence.  It provides a great list of models in the source sequence and If I open it in excel I can insert a column with the destination model name for each source model that I want to implement.

It also provides a great way to look at your own models and sort them by various criteria.

My old standby was open the rgb_effects file in excel and save it as a models file after deleting all the non model info.  That does not work now do to a huge amount of data that is captured in custom models.  I was trying to work with a shared sequence today and when I open the rgb_effects file every row opens at about half screen row height due to a plethora of custom models.  And this sequence has 93 model lines so it makes a very long display to page thru.  Especially since (at least for my purposes) most of the information about a model is not needed when doing display analysis.

If the old export to csv still exists I cannot find it.  I solved today's issue by opening the sequence in 4.3.02 and using the export models to csv there.

Please bring back that functionality or if it is still in the system put it in a menu someplace.

Thanks

That only exports 1 model.  I want to export all models.

HI,

See page 43 of the manual :

Copy two files modelxls.bat and modelxls.awk from your xLights install directory to your show directory.
From the command line (when in your show directory), un modelxls.bat.
This will read the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file and create an xlights_rgbeffects.csv file with just the model
information.

That's good to know information. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for posting that.  I've used xlights for so long now that I seldom look at the manual and I have read virtually every post on this forum since it was started.  I skip most of the LOR stuff since I gave that up years ago.  I do not ever recall seeing this mentioned, but as I age the eyes and ears do not catch as much as they used to so I am glad to see this info.

The script worked great but the output is slightly different than the old export.  However, it gives me the information needed.  I typically bring the data into excel and then add columns for last channel and total channels.  That lets me sort the data different ways and I find  the information useful in looking at my configuration for changes.

Steve posted this on fb recently so I added it to the manual after 'testing it ' ... I do find it difficult to catch everything on fb though, especially the replies to replies etc..

It's just as easy for posts to get lost here with 27 sub forums. On FB if you subscribe to notifications you get very message in email. Here if a post is more than 10 old and you've already looked at it it's gone unless you can remember the sub forum
