I don't know if this has been brought up before. I'd like to be able to do sequences on command. A tab for live show control with maybe 40 or so buttons that could be linked to an Animated or Musical sequence.

Like Danny Devito in DECK THE HALLS?

Use the fpp as your show player, push buttons can run a sequence

There is a Big Buttons plug in for the Falcon Player that can be configured to run scripted sequence starts. On the Falconchristmas.com forum search for Big Buttons in the Forever Wreath topic.

Sean, Can you give me a little more info about the push buttons your talking about. I've seen in another forum you talking about using FPP for a marching band. Something similar to what I want to do. I have a raspberry Pi, but I only played with it for a short time. So I really don't know that much about FFP. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

On the Falconchristmas.com forum search for Big Buttons in the Forever Wreath topic.
You've been told where to find the info.

Www.falconchristmas.com is where all the fpp developers live. There have been over 20,000 posts just on the fpp there. Just post your question there and you'll get many responses

Sean,
The idea of "live show control" means many things. Many DJ's use a device called a 'launchpad' to create live music using pre-recorded tracks using said launchpad.
Here is a video of one in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-lsWA73aiU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-lsWA73aiU)
Here is how they pre-configure the pad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7eR6-N4AsE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7eR6-N4AsE)
Can we do this with xLights? Not yet.

FPP is a great program for what it does and what it's for. I have a Raspberry Pi 2 B loaded with FPP. But it's not a program I what to use at this time.
I started out with LOR, but changed to XLights because it does more and is easier to use. It works perfectly for running my Halloween and Christmas shows. But every once in a while I have a need to do live control of my sequences. I can play them out of the play list, but it would be so much nicer to have a Show Control Tab such in the software Jinx.

If I needed that feature I still think the FPP would be the best platform. I would write a plugin that displays all those buttons and let it use events to fire off scripts that would do whatever work is needed. Then you would have a solution that could be run from an iPad.

I run my show on a boat in a 4 hour long boat parade.
The show runs with live control via FPP and a cell phone for playlist control.
For instant control I use a separate control box with momentary pushbuttons on it. I've preconfigured those buttons to call specific playlists, specific sequences. Stop,Start, Next. All are scripts that are already on the FPP software and easy to configure with a text editor.
This allows me to get the desired sequences playing as we approach the judging stations.

The Big Buttons plugin for FPP would allow this live control and also could easily be extended to allow more than 10 buttons on the screen.
-
Cool sounds like the plugin is already there. I thought the only one there was just one big green button to start the show.
-
Some of you talk about creating a Plugin and writing a Script to do what you need. That's all fine and dandy for those of you that know how to do it. But there's a lot more out there like me that don't have a clue about programming. So I am at the mercy of those who do. I'll have to grovel at the feet of the programmer in hopes they'll add a tab so all I have to do is push a button. I'll study up on scripts and see what I can come up with. Maybe something might sink into this old mans head yet.

i think someone will make a plugin for fpp that will have saw a 4x4 matrix of buttons. I may make it in the summe rif no one else does. I want to trigger stuff as people walk up to my Halloween show.
I would not use it for Christmas. Just go and post on falconchristmas.com and state what you are looking for, one of us will build it.

Scripts are really pretty easy. Start reading several of them and you will should easily get the gist of what they do. You may have to do some trial and error on modifications, but for the most part they are simply text files that you can update and save.
-
When you download a script from the Script Repository, it then shows up in the File Manager under the Scripts tab.
You can then open and read them and edit them if needed. I needed to enter the name of my own playlist for a start script.

The Big Button plugin for FPP allows up to 10 buttons on screen currently in a 2-column grid. I could easily change this to allow more buttons and a larger number of columns.
FPP v1.5 also includes a script editor so you no longer have to download a script to edit it, you can edit right from the File Manager screen. You will need to download and reupload to copy or rename, I haven't implemented those functions in the FPP File Manager yet.

I'm certain that when I tried to edit a script three days ago that it did not Save, saying it couldn't write. Since then, I've stopped and restarted FPPD a few times, but NOW it will let me edit in the File Manager.

I'm trying to set up an Event. I can see my scripts in the drop down list, But I'm not seeing a sequence in that drop down list. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, Jim

This is my next area of research as I have so far only used xlights for live show control...although my way of using it is not really as design and development intends. But it sounds like fpp is next. I'll be sure to post up what I learn too since I'm particularly interested in continuing to use xlights in live scenarios. I use a novation launch pad in conjunction with audio stuff and have also adapted it for moving light patterns, but not yet for led shows...although it's quite a logical step.

I too am really keen for some simpler way of achieving live show control.. I will to bring some form of interactivity to my show.. At the moment i am planning on playing with a rewired guitar hero guitar and the rasberry pi2 with the hope of somehow getting the guitar to trigger the pi inputs which then activate certain effects in my show.. But its all in the dreams pile for the moment.. Hahaha
-
What type of show are you doing? Guitar control sound fun...is it for concert?
-
Hey miker,
xmas with a twist mate.. If i can get the guitar hero setup working then i would like to simulate a band with the theme of santa and the elves (me and family and friend dressed up) rocking out for a couple of performances each weekend of december, and then allow the passersby to have a play on 'stage' if they wish..
I envisage a standard muusic sequence show running in the background but having the guitars, etc, blasting the key colours on each 'strum' across certain models..
I could be just thinking pie in the sky but u gotta dream big right?
-
Excellent! A quick look around shows that some folks have made adaptation programs for the guitars to make them midi controllers, so if you can pipe midi messages to the fpp that start/stop sequences it's probably closer to your big dream than you think!
This guys program looks like an awesome start!
