Title: lightsaber on a matrix

I was inspired by logandc99 and his Star Wars Funk.  I don't have a megatree in my display but would like to use my matrix for a light saber duel. 

Anyone have any thoughts about the best way to accomplish this? I have played around with multiple ideas but nothing has really been that good.

Have you tried grabbing a picture from the Web and using the picture effect?

I created this GIF in only a few minutes.  It sucks, but hopefully you get the point.

I'm thinking the gif route may be the best.  I've played around with it but like you my results have been less than satisfying. I probably just need to spend a little more time.
