change opengl to 2 and restart xlights. do a "Tool, package log files".
on restart it will prompt you to send log files to developers because you are no longer on auto detect opengl. answer yes and all pertinent data will be sent to dan kulp.

I did that no but put no data in the comment fields.

Sean,
OpenGL 2 works perfect with 2016.31. I must have gone back to Auto Detect after Open GL 3 without trying Open GL 2.
Macbook Pro it works great with 2016.31.

I have updated to 2016.31 and now the layout tab just keeps looping. when it finely loads as soon as i select something it starts looping again. I have tried all opengl settings and sent each of the reports. Went back to 2016.22 and everything works. I am using a laptop with a duo core and mobile Intel 4 series express chipset.

From what I've seen most of the OpenGL problems on Intel chips can be fixed by updating to the latest driver.
-
I did a quick look for an updated driver and Windows came back with driver up to date. I'll do a better look tomorrow the laptop is at work.

Well from the checkins I see the next release will display a message if you have an Intel driver that is too old.
-
I tried updating the driver today with no luck. Looks like the Dell Studio laptop does not support GL. At least I have a newer i7 quad core at home that runs the new and ever more amazing xlight's. Just have to shuttle it with me to the office .

That error message comes up over and over telling me I will have performance issues, but for my one older laptop systems there is no updated driver available. This laptop has no official Win 10 support, yet runs fine on win 10. I switched out of automatic and it still complains, but the system does run and do what I want it to.
-
Every computer made in the last 15 years should be able to run it fine. I would strongly suggest heading to Dell's site and getting more details on your machine. Yu can likely get the better video drivers right from there.
If you have an ATI card, you can download the ATI autodetect thing from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool and it will walk you though figuring out the best driver.
-
I downloaded the latest the driver from intel, but it says that it will not install on my machine. I went to Dell and they say there is no newer driver available. This old laptop is only used in my workshop for testing new lights and or configuring controllers so no biggie for me. My Desktop where any sequencing work is done works fine as does my production laptop.
When I put the SSD in the laptop to speed it up, I set the old hard drive aside, maybe I'll put the hard drive back in that still has win7 on it and see what happens. If that works I could do another upgrade to Win10. There is not much on the latpop other than lighting stuff and that is easily re-installed, heck I have to reinstall xlights at least once a week lately. LOL
Just keep doing the development work and don't worry about my old laptop.

+1 on going too Intel and dell with no luck.

Grr.... did a bit more research and it looks like we're both right. Any HARDWARE created in the last 15 years or so supports the OpenGL stuff we need, but that requires software drivers to go with it. It looks like the older Intel cards have good drivers for Windows 7, but not for Windows 8/10. The machine I have with the older intel chip is running Windows 7 which is why it works good for me. The chip can handle OpenGL 2.x and I get good frame rates with it.
So, that leaves the older Intel chips with Windows 8/10. Can you guys force the OpenGL 1.x and see if that at least works "ok". If so, I can force that if the GDI driver is detected.
I also found instructions on how to install the Windows 7 unsigned drivers:
https://communities.intel.com/thread/88711
but that seems a bit scary to me.

When I forced Open glad 1.× I had the same problem. When on the layout tap it takes over a minute to load then if I select any thing on the layout it reloads and then just goes into a reload loop.
