Title: Colors are not correct in Pictures Effect
Post by: jholmes on July 25, 2016, 09:51:05 AM
I am running into a fascinating issue where some images do not appear in their proper colors when using the Pictures Effect. I notice Reds skew towards the pinkish side and some greens skew towards blue. I tried manipulating the photos themselves (replacing all visible red with "true" red) and that seems to help somewhat (closer to Orange than Pink now) but I'm trying to determine the underlying issue.

It all looks good on the visualizer. The pre and post manipulated photos look identical, but when applied to actual lights, there is a noticeable difference. Any thoughts on how color management works with XLights? Is it my PNG file format causing the issue?

There is nothing special about the Pictures effect.  If things don't look right then a normal On effect won't look correct either.  If it's real lights do some testing with simple On effects using different colors.  You didn't define any dimming curves to the models right?  You didn't reduce the Brightness setting for the effect did you?  You didn't change the brightness in the controller did you?  There could be so many reason but I can assure you the Picture effect itself is not a problem.

If you are rescaling the image that can also impact the colours as multiple pixels are merged down to one.
