If you expand a model to see the strands, you can right click on the strand and the Add layer option is there, just like for models. Thus, the strands can now have multiple layers. (previously only allowed a single layer, Nodes are still a single layer). For Node/Strand effects, the blending setting for the bottom most layer now controls how is is blended onto the model level effects. Previously they would always override whatever was on the model level.
This is kind of a starting point for submodels. We needed to get the rendering code able to process multi-layers on stuff other than the top level models and allow the blending onto stuff that is already there. That is now working. Strands are basically just "default" sub-models. We're hoping to be able to provide a way to define your own sub-models, just not sure how yet.
