Title: Should I model 180 or 360 megatree in XL/NC for export into HLS??
Post by: danj on September 05, 2014, 10:54:48 PM
Posted over at DIYC HLS subforum also....   I am modeling my megatree in xlights/nutcracker the same as in HLS--a 360 degree tree configured with 40 strings of 90 pixels per string.  However, my actual physical megatree will be a 180 degree tree configured with 20 strings of 90 pixels per string.  Everything looks great in XL/NC, but when I pull the XL/NC files over into HLS, many are not looking right when displayed in HLS.  For example, I am using some "bars" effects and some "spirals" effects that look great in XL/NC (symmetric right to left when rolling up or down...) but are asymmetric (looks like only the right side of the bars/spirals...) when I display them in HLS.

Am I thinking about this incorrectly??  Should I model the tree as a 180 degree tree in XL/NC?  I know I have to model it as a 360 degree tree in HLS.
Thanks in advance!!

I had a misunderstanding in the XL/NC and HLS sides of the equation.   I changed my XL/NC model from a 360 degree 40 string megatree to a 180 degree 20 string megatree.  I also changed my HLS model based on input from angus40 and Joe Hinkle such that the HLS pixelplane is configured as 40 strings (360 degree) but with channel info only assigned to 20 of the strings.  Once I did those things everything worked great.
