I was converting effects from one sequence to another. I have one model I changed my mind on and would like to delete the effect that I previously imported in. I can't seem to accomplish that. The effects look to me like it is a data layer. I can even right click on the model and click PROMOTE EFFECT. I can then delete the effects but when I render they just come back. I have also tried reimporting with that model blank. No joy.

Go to the Sequence Settings dialog and delete that Data Layer.

Ok then you don't have one. The data is coming from a channel overlap.

Yep. That was it. Those shadow models can be tricky.
