I am trying to cut and past effects from one element to another. For example, I am sequencing two stair rails that I sometimes want doing the same effect. Now, I started by pulling in audacity timing marks and auto generating a sequence, in case that makes any difference with anything. Anyway, when I try to copy the contents of one cell (e.g. left rail) into another cell, I can see the effect pasted into the cell but when I click on "update grid", the cell into which I am trying to paste the effect reverts to its previous contents. Now if I "save" at that point, all is well--the pasted info remains in the cell. Am I thinking about "update grid" incorrectly??? Edit--I found I can "cut" to delete the existing effect from the cell I want to change, then paste the desired effect into it. Is that the best way to do this??? Thanks in advance!!

When you click on a cell the detail contents of that cell are shown in the entries below the effect. When you click update grid, the detail contents that are in that cell are put into the highlighted grid location therefore wiping out your paste.

So then is it "best" to delete the contents of the cell to which you want to paste the "desired" effects?? That seems to work really well but it seems like a couple of extra steps.... Thanks JIm.

When you paste into a cell, it is updated. But if you click Update before saving, you will get whatever settings are in the 2 effect areas below.

Thanks JonB. Info appreciated. I apparently misunderstood the way cut/paste & "update grid" are intended to work!!

When I cut/paste (or copy/paste), the one thing I do is click again in the cell that I pasted into. Then you will actually see the updated effects in the section below.

I see-- just did what you said, Rando. I was not "staying in" the cell so I was "losing" the copied effect. Wow I am learning all kinds of stuff.... THANKS
