Title: My last post
Post by: Gilrock on October 14, 2016, 08:32:08 AM
I don't really need anything on the forum I only come here to help others.  I guess Sean thought it was a good idea to turn on that stupid Karma feature.  I really think Like buttons are stupid but that Karma thing is even dumber.  I log on all day to help people out only to receive a Smite...and I see a new user that came here for help and only had 5 posts asking for help and gets the same thing.  Well I'll just let Sean help everyone I don't need the bad karma...lol.  You can find me on DIYC or Facebook if you need real help.

Sorry to see you go. I don't do Facebook so I hope you would reconsider. But I never understood the like or Karma thing either. I like this forum because it's not 80% posts of people asking for free sequences.

Yeah, but you are still +4 ahead of the game....... 8)
I have to agree with not needing 'Like' buttons and such.  They are fine on Social Media, but not really needed on a Christmas Lighting forum.  (lots of old farts on here anyway)  Just sayin.........

It is possible that someone clicked on it by accident.  I agree though, very stupid to have it.  I hope you reconsider and come back.

If not, I won't see you on facebook, but will follow you on DIYC.

I'm another one that thinks Facebook sucks for tech support.  It is a conversational tool and IMHO not appropriate for tech support and searches.  I look at it, but about the only thing good I have gotten are things posted in the files section, but even there you have to scroll thru pages and pages to find anything as there is no organization to it.

Because you're too old or you're too young?
With age comes wisdom just how wise are you if you're calling other people old farts

For those of you that don't know Gil or have met him, this is a huge loss if he actually stays away. Most of the really cool effects have been programmed by him. I would encourage you (Gil) to ignore what ever and come back please

Joking aside I really don't know what the purpose of the karma thing is I could do without it, that's my vote. If I have a problem with something I'll speak my mind not sit in the shadows and click on the Smite button ( I'm a mechanic by trade and you know where a surly bunch). Gil has done more to help me than anyone else I think it would be a great loss not having him here. This also could be because he's helped so many people he might be getting burnt out and might need a break. I read a few posts where he's trying to help somebody who's not putting in any effort themselves to figure it out.

When i turned on Karma, i didnt realize there was a smite. I only wanted positive reviews for posts. I have turned the feature off. Gil is the top poster on this forum. He can sometimes be gruff, but you will notice he has made over 3000 posts, i am second with 1500. He is by far the single most valuable support person for xlight users.

Gil your departure is a real loss to this group! You have certainly spent countless hours helping people who quite frankly should RTFM before posting or clicking on smites for that matter. Amongst all those posts, you have nevertheless provided no end of new and useful information that will likely get lost in the ether if only posted on FB. (And I struggle to find stuff on DIYC.)  Hopefully, you will agree to come back as some future time.

What the hell did I miss??? Who pissed off Gil. That's my job! I've met Gil as well and he is a sweetheart. Gruff, maybe but look at the amount of questions and troubleshooting requests. I couldn't do it. Sometimes a break is necessary and maybe in time it will make sense to come back.

See that was the whole problem I had with that setting.  You don't know who is pissing you off.  I'll take a slap in the face when I deserve it and as long as I know who did it so I can secretly plot their destruction...lol.  I know I've said things to upset people in the past but I can't remember anything like that for several weeks and that's what set me off about it.  It seemed like someone dinged me the day I asked someone to post their files but said I wasn't sure if I would have time to look at them.

Anyways looks like my boycott was successful and no roads were blocked and no one got run over. :)

Hey Gil, your help is greatly appreciated, especialy with the very noobie question I had.  I lurk a lot and try and read as much as I can but your help is very much appreciated!  I would bet money there are other lurkers out there that feel the same.  Hopefully it wasn't me that accidently smited, I appreciated your help with my question and clicked the 'like' button.
