Title: Old test presets vs new test presets
Post by: jnealand on November 06, 2016, 01:54:43 PM
I have come across what could be an issue for some.  In the old version of test presets channels apparently started with channel 0, but in the new version of test it appears that channels start at 1.  I copied over my old presets and noticed that the last channel sometimes did not light up.  In examining the networks.xml it appears that the test presets are starting different than they used to.  To help me when I am shortening or lengthing a string I have a number of preset that I copied over from last year.  These are just straight numbers of nodes and not model related like 30 nodes, 48 nodes, 60 nodes, etc.  In the old testpresets they all start with channel 0 and show up one channel short when using them, ie. the last node is not white.

If I am correct I need to edit them and add 1 channel to all my presets.  What say you Keith?

I am not sure. At this point I would be inclined to leave it as is. The new code has been there so long now that I would cause problems for users either way. Unless of course you are saying it doesn't work at all.

I was not asking for a change, only confirmation on the numbering.  I just hit the problem again trying to demo a prop I just built to my wife that takes exactly 100 nodes and I was p,,,ed off because one node was bad.  When I looked at the node it was the last one on the string  because the 100 node preset goes from 0 -299, and when I added channel 300 to the selection all was good.  I can fix my presets, but also wanted to warn others that had old presets from before the test upgrade, which I do like.

Now if there was only a way to export and import the presets.  Or keep them in a separate file  I have many folders that I use and need/would like all my presets in all my configurations.  I have folders for testing new stuff, one for multicast testing, one for unicast testing, one for Halloween, one for P10 testing, etc.  Presets are not just used to test models.  My most used one is one that turns every 10 node red (blue for 2811s LOL) and every 5th node green,  I use that before I cut a new string to make sure I have the correct number of nodes.  As an example today, I had to lengthen the wire between certain nodes and having the system "count" for me gives me backup to manual counting and makes it easier to find the correct cut points.
