Title: This year the setup for the F16v2 has plumb evaded me. My head hangs in shame.
Post by: pshaver on December 06, 2016, 09:52:49 PM
Having suddenly turned in to the Helen Keller of Christmas lights this year, I once again humbly ask for guidance.  Last year I ran my mega tree and mini trees off a F16v2 exp and the rest of the show was on 682s. And managed to get it all going.

This year no 682s controllers, using  the F16v2 expansion board from last year and added a F16v2 with Diff Exp board and 4 receiver boards.  This should have simplified by life.... but no.

I have my models in xlights starting with channel 1 and numbered straight through, but for the life of me I can't get the string port entered correctly.  I have some light on and other not.  And I'm not finding a simple example on you tube.  I must now sleep, and look forward to some stellar advice.

thanks in advance.... this forum rocks.       signed HK

You should post screenshots of your xLights model properties, setup, and the F16v2 setup.  Otherwise we just guess too much.

I wasn't sure what model to focus on.  I do see Mega Tree 7 says it ends on 8025 in xLights but output 6 on the Falcon ends on 8028 so you have a mismatch there.  What does the model properties look like for that tree?

The Mega Tree is 6 strings of 97 pixels, with 2 strand per string.  So when I did the math my spread sheet and in the controller the end channel is 8028.  I don't understand why the model is coming up 3 short.  But I noticed with the upgrades, this model now has a "rotation" with a value of 3, could that be the discrepancy?

I've attached my layout for this year with the controller "plan", I have to have a visual.  So the Mega tree, on controller 169.254.71.78, appears to operating correctly as are the Mini trees and Stars, except for Mini Tree 6 - there only the bottom 2 rows of light are lit, and the star is not lighting.

On the other controller 79, only the Roof Line and Candy Canes 2&3 are lighting.

Sorry I'm as tech savvy as many of you,  my part is usually the sequencing (aka "all the pretty colors").

So I'm not sure what happens when you use strands per string like that.  Its usually meant to be a number that evenly divides into the string size but 97 with 2 strands is 48.5 pixels per strand.

So the arches are not lighting and they go through the differential boards?  I'm not familiar with setup for those.  If you can get Dave to help I'm sure he could figure it out.  I have trouble getting him to see my emails lately.

I can't remember why the odd number of pixels from last year.  I will re check the tree, if it's really 97 I should be able to just drop the number to 96 or will that mess something else up?

I'm thinking you would go up to 98 and add in 1 Null Pixel.........
