Im running Windows 10 and i watched that tube vid abt doing the ip address thingy abt 20xs and still nothing. Its prob sumthing ez that I'm over looking. Lets see if you can crack the case. lol

Can you ping it?

How do you have the controller connected to your computer?
-
I don't know what ip address thingy you tried but it would help to describe your network setup, what IP addresses you are using for the PC and controller, whether the PC also has Wifi active.
-
I don't know how to ping it. Explain?
-
Controler is connected w a USB.
IP on the computer is 192.168.001.001. On the falcon is 192.168.001.002. No wifi

One of the more Falcon-knowledgable folks can weigh-in here, but I don't know of a way to connect to the Falcon with USB; but that is quite likely just a lack of knowledge on my part. I connect to my Falcon with an Ethernet cable (cat 5) connected to the Ethernet port on my PC.
Windows 10 will work fine with xlights & with the Falcon controller. One way to ping your controller is to type in "cmd" in the black box at the bottom of your main screen and a black command screen will pop up (looks like an old MS-DOS screen). Type in ping and the IP address there and it will either give you an error message or it will pretty much immediately come back with a reply that the address was found; if successful it should look like the text I pasted below, where I pinged my wireless router as an example for you.
C:\Users\danej>ping 192.168.1.1
Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=8ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=64

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Thats what i meant.....CAD5

Let me ask are you using a router. I have never had any luck with a setup going right from a pc to a controller. But I also heard if you do hook direct you need a cross over cable. was going to try but have not found the time.
-
I am using a crossover cable .
-
I would still toss a router in. just remembering all the post of people trying to do it with out.
-
Ok... I have a router does anyone have a generic diagram on the connection? Guessn it would be computer...cad5...router...cad5...falcon?
-
Hey George help us help you, put your location in your profile and maybe somebody from your area will be able to help you out. When you said it's connected with a USB IP did you mean you have a USB ethernet adapter? And do you have the same computer hooked up to the Internet through the ethernet connection that's built into the computer? We'll need more information to help walk you through this otherwise we're stuck just making assumptions on how you have things hooked up.
-
The cable that you're referring to as cad5 is actually CAT5 and we use it for a lot of different things in this Hobby. So use caution when plugging it in and be sure that you are using it with the right protocol. For instance Lor and Renard use a CAT5 cable to connect their controllers but the wire is used for a serial connection which is in no way compatible with the connection on the Falcon controller that's used to hook it up to the computer. The Falcon controller has other ports that are the same but use the serial connection.
-
Some devices can fry if you use the wrong cat5 pinning. Example I have a device that if I use a crossover cable will fry out it. It has to be straight. Not aware of anything in our hobby that is this way, but just something to consider and think about.

Ok... I got it. Its up and running. Now to the next step!!
Thx.
-
Glad to hear you got it up and running.
-
Oook so are you going to let us know what it was?
-
My bad... Lol
Ok so i have my board all set in an inclosure already and it goes from the board to the wall of the inclosure then i used sum connection to make it water tight...then it comes out from the outside to the computer. So i was thinkn start with the ez stuff and work my way up. I took the connection off the enclosure and went straight to the computer and wala! We got connection!! So its computer USB port out to the jumper.. The CAT5 straight to the board. No router was used. If the didn't work i was gonna go the router way. Glad the EZ way workd. Now I'm watching YOUTUBE vids on how to get the board working. Lol
-
I setup my enclosures with a 1 inch hole in the bottom where I bring in my CAT 5 cables. Once the cables inside the box it's weather-tight and I have one less point of failure. And in my experience no matter how much you think a Box like that is weather tight something always happens and it's a good idea to provide a drain hole in the bottom for extra insurance.

Advise taken. Thx.
On a good note. I got my board configured. All the ports are working and now i can sequence my little heart away!! Lol. But thanks for getn me on the right path.
-
You lost me at USB port.
-
USB.
-
RJ45 plug
-
WTF are those pictures for? I still don't see what a USB port has to do with talking to a Falcon from a PC.
-
Ohhh... See that's where I'm losing yall. I bought this little adapter at a computer store. Its USB to CAT5. CAT5 out of yhr falcon..into adapter...out USB into the computer.
My bad...

Those pictures were to help clarify visually. The way he was talking he could have been referring to his ethernet connection on his computer as the USB port.

Hey thx. I just signed up to that ACL. Said im waiting for approval. I'll dwnload it and read it for sure.
While yall are here... How difficult is it to share and or recieve sequences? On the forum i see a subject line "shared sequences" i like that one that i saw so just askn.
-
Importing a sequence from someone else is not difficult but there is a process you need to follow. See one of the videos on importing xlights sequences at videos.xlights.org
-
Ok thx. Just wasnt sure if it was worth the hassel. I'll check it out.
