Title: xLights Consultation Services by xTremeSequences
Post by: bravado67 on June 29, 2017, 11:43:04 AM
xTremeSequences now offers Consultation Services at xTremeSequences.com

I thoroughly enjoy helping enthusiasts navigate the many aspects of building an xLights show. The magic to this working is using no hands - my hands that is. I coach, you drive. A Zooom conference call gives us this luxury one-on-one, where I can offer suggestions and feedback while you take advantage of Kinesthetic learning, all while we see the same monitor screen. This, by no means, is a substitution for the many great tutorial videos out there. That should be step one. I can provide step two. For $75 a lot of ground can be covered in one hour.

Hmmm I guess I'm the odd one here. I have had 2 groups of newbees at the house. Each for a few hours and then some emails after for fallow up. Then I gave away most of last year's display. Last year I had given up my pictures I had drawn for the mega tree for free. Yes All for free. I always thought the whole idea of this blog was to help each other and share. If I can I'll go out of my way to help. My payment... Just to know I could....     I do have a stronger option but I'll keep it to myself. Need to be polite here..

I don't think you are odd. It sounds like we are on the same page. I would never charge for stuff like this, or items created on free software. I spent a lot of hours working on some .net stuff and I shared it with others.

As a computer tech I get asked for advice and help a lot.  It can really eat up your time.  One way to control it is to charge for it.  I don't consider Ron's prices out of line for what he does.  But I will not be paying it as I find it more valuable to learn how to do stuff myself.  However there are a lot of "time challenged" (and "knowledge challenged") folks that have the money to pay for help.  God bless them.  When I fix someones computer and they pay me I thank them for supporting my light show - which they all enjoy every year.  If you had an expertise that many people found valuable you could find youself in the same situation and those who want free help often come back again and again and again - not all of them, but you would be surprised how many repeaters there are.  If you don't like it don't buy it.   In my business $75 per hour is cheap for quality help.

I have changed my pricing for this. Just so you know this was requested by several. I give freely every Wednesday on the xLights Zoom Call. I also give freely in the groups I belong to. I give freely to anyone who emails or messages me. Just ask the folks from Australia I have been helping after participating in their minis.

This is really simple. If you do not need or want my one-on-one services just keep moving. How many of you complain that Lilia charges for sequences or mapping services? I didn't think so. You have no reference to know if there is value in a one-on-one with me until you are there. Here is what I have decided to do instead:

I thought about dropping my Consultation price from $75 to $50 but I think I have a better idea. For those that want one-on-one training with me for $75 I will give them a free Effects Pack. If you already own them then you can have any of my sequences valued at $35 and less. You get the first hour for $40. After the first hour we will discuss if further time is needed and what that cost would be. Don't purchase more than one hour at my store.

There are so many different styles of learners out there that it would be unfair to put a blanket cost on such a dynamic interaction. I'm just trying to be a resource where value is recognized.

Me too! In my consulting role previously it was a little less than that but when you close big deals with large corporations you get what you pay for. For my time in this situation I realize that seems high and the perception is gouge gouge gouge. If you knew me you would think differently. I've changed the pricing. See below. Thanks for the feedback.

Babybear, you know when I started this path from the beginning. I think you mentioned my cheese had slid off the cracker. LOL  I have made tons of videos documenting and offering advice from the perspective of a newbie and I will continue that. I don't have many that live near me in this hobby - maybe 4 or 5 at most.

I don't spend a lot of time here since so many use the FB groups. I can only do so much. As far as charging I feel my time is well worth $75 when it includes an Effects Pack or Sequence. So it's $40 now and any future hours can be discussed on the call if value was achieved and further help needed.

Thanks for your feedback.

Ron
