Title: RGB singing faces effects
Post by: jneisert on July 14, 2017, 01:58:41 PM
I posted this question on the FB page and thought I would also post it here in hopes that someone could help me out:

For all of you layer experts out there I need a little help.

I'm transitioning all of our old single color Coro faces to pixels this year. What I would like to do is during the singing parts have the face change colors and what not with out lighting up the entire model.
I assume this is possible using different layers, but for the life of me I can't find the correct combination to make this happen.

You want submodels.

I have each mouth along with the eyes as their own sub model but still get the effect lighting up the entire face. Here are a few screen shots of what I'm talking abou if it helps.

From your images it is not clear what your concern is. You have the face effect on the whole model and it appears to be operating the face.

I can get it to operate the face just fine with just the face effect on it. But if I try to add a layer below the face effect layer and do a butterfly effect it will have the first layer perform the lyrics track and the second layer run the butterfly effect on all nodes that aren't already lit due to the face effect.

What I want to do is to be able to have the face going through the lyrics track and be able to run say a bars effect only on the nodes that should be lit with the lyrics track.

Got it working. My problem was that I had the second layer below the lyric track layer. If I put the effect layer above the lyric track layer and have that layer blend as 2 is unmasked it works.

I just demonstrated this in a class at the Expo today.  I put the Butterfly below the Face effect and set the Face effect to 1 is unmask.

So my duh moment reading your reply Gil was that I was trying to blend the effect layer instead of the face effect. Good to know there is more than one way to skin a cat.
