Title: Resolved: Master/Remote with Xlights
Post by: JerryPlak on September 04, 2017, 05:04:03 AM
Looking to see if it's possible to set up multisync with FPP using Xlights.

My goal possibly set up Xlights as a master or Remote:  due to others Windows apps I need to run with this setup.

I have looked at Xlights and played with xSchedule Master/Remote  settings but they don't seem to be on the same page and talking with each other.

Have any thoughts on this?

PS I'm posting this on the falconchristmas as well nutcracker123 forms.

Yes you can as long as they are on the same network and the fseq files are setup on both

Keith, can you give an example?  How would xLights provide the master/sync signal (replacing a master FPP)?

You just need to set xschedule in the right mode and ensure you have a playlist set up with the same fseq file and the fpp and xschedule on the same network. They use broadcast packets so you don't need to configure anything. If it isn't working check in the xschedule log file for errors or warnings.

Sorry.  As I was not expecting to use xSchedule due to the fact that I am running multiple RPi/FPP remotes, I have not dug into the books for xSchedule.  This news that xSchedule can send sync signals rather than full sequence streams is new. I may take some time tonight and check this out.

FYI - sequence streams across the internal communications setup will kill the whole thing.  The sync method, with appropriate sequences loaded at each of the remotes is what I need.

algerdes,
thank you for adding comments to this I also agree to your comments especially "sequence streams across the internal communications setup will kill the whole thing.  The sync method, with appropriate sequences loaded at each of the remotes what I also need.

One way to look at this as Xlight is the editor console and maybe with the xSchedule there be some handshaking with FPP on the Master/Remote role!!

I think about my work background in video editing, where we had an editor console that control the video switcher, audio board, VCRs as well as digital effects unit.

In this set up a used Timecode sync method, one may look to how midi time code is used from a keyboard to drum machines and other devices.

The bottom line there's a what or need for some type of handshaking between Xlight & FPP or the other way around.

Jerry what are you talking about?  Keith already told you guys you can run xSchedule and it will do the remote sync capabilities the same as an FPP master.  So no there is no want or need for some type of handshaking because it's already there.
