Title: What is where and what for?
Post by: algerdes on September 23, 2017, 08:43:19 PM
Can we talk about what is where, and why in xLights?

I have a directory where all my xLights show directories are kept called "Seq xLights".  It is directly off of my C: drive.  (C:\Seq xLights).  It contains the different directories I use, and also a set of files:
  xlights_keybindings.xml
  xlights_networks.xml
  xlights_rgbeffects.xbkp
  xlights_rgbeffects.xml

My primary show directory is c:\Seq xLights\2017 LWW.
In this directory are all the sequence files, their .fseq and .xbkp files (if they have a backup file).  There are also files directories for:
  Backup
  Media
  Models
  xScheduleData
(all directories that I understand)

In addition, there are the following files:
  xlights_keybindings.xml
  xlights_networks.xml
  xlights_rgbeffects.xbkp
  xlights_rgbeffects.xml

I put all this down to ask this question:
Is there a reason the files exist in both the primary directory and the different sequence directories?  (I can imagine, but I would like to hear from those that actually know.)

Those files only show up when a folder has been selected as a show directory.  If they are showing up in your sequence directory then you changed your show directory to that sequence folder at some point.  I've used subfolders for sequences and it does not create those files in the folder with the sequence.  You usually only have additional show folders if you have like "Christmas" and "Halloween" or old ones from other years.

Thanks.  I do have multiple show folders.  That explains it.
