Title: Twinkle
Post by: Flacon on October 17, 2017, 10:04:02 PM
I have converted a number of sequences from Vixen 2 and I am not getting a good twinkly effect. I have played around with the settings and the repeats are frequent.

I have 16 snow flakes, single channel LED each.

Any thoughts how I can get a good random effect?

Put them in a group. Off effect and on the colour plan add twinkle?

Are you specifically talking about the Twinkle effect (I presume so).

I noticed the same thing--it seems to repeat quite noticeably, even when "re-randomize" is checked.  I thought it was just me.

It does seem to prefer certain pixels for twinkle.

Keith and I did not write the Twinkle effect so we aren't going to know enough about its algorithm to touch it anytime soon.  Its easy for any of us to have a thought about how it should work but someone has to actually figure out how to translate ideas to math.  Its like once I was given a camera and asked can you write us a facial recognition system.

I've found the Twinkle effect has somewhat of a sweet spot when you mess with the settings.  That sweet spot changes based on the size of the model its on.  So I just adjust till it looks good.  Trust me your audience will not likely notice the things that bug you.

When you see the Twinkle at the start of this sequence live it's quite awesome and looks like strobes:

So when I check the strobe check box I get a much better random pattern but would like more softness.
