Title: FPP wireless dongle
Post by: George34 on November 07, 2017, 03:58:27 PM
Question abt this wireless dongle for the pi 2.   Does it have to be a certain one?   I bought one and i can sink it up b to my computer and get wireless but as soon as i pull it out of the port i goes out.   When i put it in the pi ....nothing.   Am i missing a step on this?   I watched a vid on YouTube and it said they use the 802.11n.  Does it have to b that one?

The Edimax dongle is the "gold standard" for both RasPi and Beaglebone for use with FPP.

While others work for most people (like the WiPi) sometimes they don't and that makes people crazy this close to Christmas.

If your ethernet port is connected to the router you will generally not be able to use the wireless at the same time.  Set the eth0 to DHCP and the wlan to a static IP on your wifi network.  Unplug the ethernet cable and see if you can connect via wifi.  That is the way I set mine up and it works great.
