The first thing you need to do after downloading xlights is to setup the show directory.
1) "File, Select Show Folder"
This could be as follows. Substitue my username for yours
LOR: C:\Users\smeighan\Documents\Light-O-Rama\Sequences
LSP: C:\Program Files (x86)\Minleon\LSP Sequencer
Vixen: C:\Vixen.2.1.1\Sequences
or you could just make a folder where things will be stored
C:\Vixen.2.1.1\Xmas2014
NOTE: Whatever show directory you pick, this is where you MUST put all your audio files. If there are no mp3 files, the file open option to create a sequence from music will be grayed out.
2) Next you need to add controllers to the SETUP tab.
You can add these controllers
USB DMX
USB Pixelnet
USB LOR
USB D-Light
USB Renard
USB OpenDMX
E1.31
3) Click save when you are done getting a pile of channels defined.
you are donw. FOr my 24 universes of E1.31, this whole setup process takes less than 30 seconds.

universe 4 is start 490 size 216
universe 5 is start 706 size 156
universe 6 is start 862 size 36
universe 7 is start 898 size 300
universe 8 is start 1198 size 300
universe 9 is start 1498 size 258
universe 10 is start 1756 size 162
universe 11 is start 1918 size 207
universe 12 is start 2125 size 69

Frustration has set in, I can't do it. My brain is not what it used to be. Sorry. I'll stay with the test samples.
-
Can't really answer your question without knowing how you are hooking things up to the controller and which controller you are using.
-
Thanks to Sean and many others here, we have it mostly working. We might have a show afterall

will be bring over my lor setup will be 5 LOR controllers, an AlphaPix 16, and a Falcon V2. Any things I should look out for? Also where do I import my house pic?

You really should start a new thread. Also, it sounds like you are very new. Start with the videos, tutorials, manuals, etc., first. All of these are found www.xlights.org. Then, form your questions after you have a good base.

That's all fine and good sparky but in addition to trying to get my show together I work a full time + job, very little time to sit around in my pj's and watch a bunch of youtube videos. I have a general idea of how all this works and am just needing minor suggestions.

Most all of us have full time job, volunteering commitments, kids in activities, etc. and yet find time to do research to learn the hobby. How did you learn LOR when you were starting out? Probably would best to follow same pattern to learn xLights...You select your house pic in the layout tab. Yes there are many things to look out for so as you come across specific questions, use the search button in the top right and you will probably find the answer to your question....hope this helps.

I won't get into your silly comments. My point, and an example, I downloaded the manual. That took 10 seconds (https://xlights.org/xLights_User_Manual.pdf (https://xlights.org/xLights_User_Manual.pdf)). I did a search for house. The first thing that popped up was how to setup background image. Total time was about a minute. If you can't make time for that then just hang it up now sparky!!

Does calling me sparky make this a bromance?

Having a problem getting all of the E1.31 controllers to test in the setup
We switched some of our display to RGB adding 2- E682 controllers and 1- E6804 we still have 8 LOR controllers running in DMX mode we have those listed first and running under Universe 1 thru 512 channels and it they so far test perfect.
Problem starts when we add the first E1.31 controller using Unicast list the IP address and starting universe (2) tell it the number of universes and it tests fine. Now when we add any additional E1.31 controllers setting up with unicast/ IP address/ start universe/number of universes nothing runs except the DMX (LOR) and the first E1.31 controller
I can test each controller individually listing it as the first E1.31 controller and it will work but none of the others 1.31's will
So I know its us....... the controllers all work......
Help is appreciated :)

Have you run check sequence?
-
We have
We had overlapping models before adding controllers and corrected those everything else is OK
Just went onto each controller thru Sandevice controller page and tested each controller
as well as thru the Cmd line we pinged each unit it was OK
-
We need to see images of your setup.
-
We have our DMX set up USB comm 11 512 channels
our first E682 IP 192.168.1.30 Start Universe 2 -7
second E682 IP 192.168.1.40 Start Universe 8-13
last E6804 IP 192.168.1.5 Starts universe 14 - 17
is there something with the IP addresses
I will try and get a picture
-
Cant upload image
We have our laptop connected to a netgear 8 port gigabit switch
Then the three E682 controllers plug into it (thought the switch might be the issue we used another switch with same problem) Thought maybe laptop had a problem so we put xlights on another laptop tried setup and same results I can get the first E.131 to run but not the others.
Does not matter which E682 we list is first it will work the other two will not
Listed First is
Our DMX using USB through Holidaycoro actidongle comm 11DMX set to use channels 1-512
After the DMX:
Frist E1.31 set up Unicast 192.168.1.30 starts univ 2 thru 7 start channel 513 -3584
Second E1.31 Unicast 192.168.1.40 starts Univ 8-13 start channel 3585- 6656
Third E1.31 Unicast 192.168.1.50 starts Univ 14-17 start channel 6657-8704
all are set yes on active
May try switching them all over to run in multicast and see if we cant get them to run just seems odd
-
I am sorry. It without seeing the images I can't help.
-
Even if you have to post Dropbox links.
-
No problem Ill try when I get back tonight for sure over weekend
What I did try just a few minutes ago was to go into the E682 controller page and reconfigured the outputs to match the universes defined in the the xlight setup page when defining the E131 and IP of the controller....
Now we can test all three thru x lights test mode no issues
So thought almost time to celebrate and tried a sequence 2 of the three controllers worked perfect the one controlling my arch's did not go on
-
Do the SanDevices support 512 channels or only 510 ... I can never remember.
Also I have no idea which controller your arches are on.
If you want to do this right I need to see
Setup tab - check
Model definition of the arches
Controller configuration
-
Arch's are E6804
Problem was last year we only ran one E682 with the rest on 10-LOR controllers
I got things to work not sure we did things right but here is what I did
Accessed the controllers and assigned the universe to match outputs on each terminal group on the controller so that is is the same as the Xlights setup/layout called for
so our first pixel tree took universes 2-7 we made the controller outputs match that.So outputs 1-1 thru 1-4 assigned universe 2
2-1 thru 2-4 are universe 3 etc
We did this for both E682's and the 1 - E6804
We then added one at a time into setup on xlights and tested to be sure it worked once we had all three added into xlights we changed our models in layout to make sure things matched.
I needed to render the sequence and then tested to find everything worked.
Does that sound right
-
So long story short everything's working?
Otherwise when Keith asks for controller setup we want screens shots of xLights and the controller's webpages not word descriptions of what you're doing.
-
I apologize there was operator error getting a screen shot posted
hoping the attached work and we are doing our setup correctly?????
-
Ok. Not exactly the model properties screen but see how you have said universe 2 start channel 513. That is almost certainly wrong. That will map to universe 3 start channel 1. Try changing the 513 to 1.
-
Do the SanDevices support 512 channels or only 510 ... I can never remember.
Depends on which firmware is on the controller. Older firmware 510, newer select between 510 and 512.
-
We changed our controllers configuration based on some videos we re-watched and read more posts
Then modified xlight setup changing a few things as advised and things seem to be OK all three controllers are working as well as dmx controllers so now we will put up the lights and test
Thanks
Happy Holidays

Just starting out you don't really need to worry about controllers you can start drawing your models in Layout and go back and fill in channel assignments later. I don't know that controller well but DMX mode would definitely work. I've never tried it but if you hit the Import button above the layout page, drag out a square, then the dialog will allow you to select a LOR prop file or an xLights xmodel file.
