Title: Two-Sided Icicle
Post by: bwinter on December 09, 2017, 09:21:08 PM
I seem to recall that this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the right search-criteria.

If I were to make a two-sided icicle using RGB strips placed back-to-back (10 nodes going DOWN on the "front", and 10 nodes going UP on the "back"), how would I model this in XLights?

Obviously, I would want the front and back to sequence identically.  How would I set it up for the back side to always mirror the front?

I think the only thing you could do is make 2 submodels. One for each side. Put them in a group and use per model render style.

I'll give that a shot.

I tried a custom-model (two columns by ten rows).  I wasn't able to get them to chase in unison--it chased through all 20 nodes, instead of just chasing through 10 (with the other ten reflected).

Funny you say this as I have been experimenting with this. I took 2 12volt strips and ran them back to back both with the data going down. feed data at the top of both at the same time it worked. but, love that word, I don't like the fact of groups of 3 LEDs per node. so I tried a 5volt strip that the each LED is controlled separately. Now those would not work in that fashion.  maybe something to do with the chip as those are part of the LED.

sorry I was wrong   something is wrong with my first icicle so the rest are working just fine   feeding data in at the top of both sides at the same time. pulling data off the bottom only on one side to feed the next set. using coro to tape the strips to and can run the return wire back up inside. .

1' length of 1/2" PEX tube, with double-sided 5V LED strips (60 LED/M) inside, encased in Epoxy.  4-pin, mini-DIN connector at the end (V+, GND, DI, DO).
