Title: Re: SineDoubleSpiral Help
Post by: mmais on December 18, 2017, 07:30:44 AM
Being a rookie to xlights I need some help.
I have been playing with xlights for a few weeks & looking to add a few downloaded effects, but having problems.
I have downloaded  Sine Double Spiral effect & when I try to import it I can not see the effect. Here are a few pictures as to what I see.
When I click Import button it asks for XML files these spiral effects were downloaded as preset how do I convert.
Sorry for the dumb question but a complete rookie.

It would help if you turned on file extensions so we could see the whole file name.  Also xlights_keybindings is not a file you should be messing with unless you know how to change custom key commands.

What I think you need to do is start a sequence and right click the grid and select Effect Presets.  Then from the preset dialog there should be an Import button and you select one of the files.  There are several Import buttons throughout the program so lets make sure you are using the right one.  Also tell us what version of xLights you are using to make sure you aren't still on some ancient version.

yes I was using an older version & have updated to the most current version. Problem now is I lost all my setup so I have to go back & start over. Will post to night after I get everything setup.

Upgrading will not cause you to lose anything. Just check you are still pointed at your old show folder.

I do not see where the old models are. Below is what is in my xLights folder.

The rgbeffects file has your models.

Also the Backup directory should have older copies of your xlights_rgbeffects.xml file with your models.

Have you put any effects on the models? Are you clicking the effects?  Which preview (House or Model)?  If you have effects have you hit Render All?

I guess I am just a dumb old man that can not figure anything out. When I went to add an effect to the sequence & then play it this is what happened. I had to close the program reload it & try again with the same results. What is going on????
This is the reason I was using version 4 as I had no problems. This is ver 2017.42 32 bit

Looks like I solved the problem. Was reading on message board this AM someone suggested changing the Open GL to 1.x from Auto Detect. I did this & played around a bit & no lock up or crash. I will see what happens as I do more work.

I was going to suggest that next if you told me none of my other suggestions were a problem.

If OpenGL 1 fixes your issue then try upgrading video drivers.

My video drivers are as I can go on this computer without replacing video card. I am using an older Dell Optoplex 755 running windows 7.
