Title: LOR S5 Clipboards
Post by: dougd on January 04, 2018, 01:28:20 PM
Just wondering if there will be support for S5 clipboards. The clipboards changed in S5 and was hoping to see that working again. Thanks.

Maybe if you can provide the S5 clipboard format for us.

Not sure why the last post didnt have clickable links.

To get clickable links you can't just paste the link you gotta use the Insert Hyperlink button shown in this image I attached.  I posted this cause its a common thing folks miss.

The clipboards look like standard XML.  Not sure if there are many variations that don't show up in your examples.  I guess the xLights team needs to talk about whether we are going to keep trying to reverse engineer stuff to work with LOR.

This doesn't look that hard to support, it's almost exactly like the old clipboard format except for color, but the question is "what is a channel" in there.   The effects on the channels in there have colors (which is different than the "v1" clipboard format we currently write).   Thus, does a "channel" in there actually reflect what we could all a node and contain a full RGB value (and thus 3 channels)?

Bob writes a few utilities for LOR software, he didnt seem to think there were major differences. If you all decide to do this, anything I can do to help just let me know.

It would be nice to see a clipboard that shows a single AC channel and an RGB channel to see how they are notated.   Maybe screenshot what they look like in LOR.

I haven't really kept up with the software.  I had a PRO license for S4 and at least a 24 ribbon SuperStar licence but I think they upgraded how many the license allows.  What's the deal with S5 I looked on the website and it doesn't show up on the purchase page?  Is it free or in beta?

S5 is still in beta. Here is the link to the page to download it.

I will get the clipboards and attach a screenshot this time.

I installed 2018.2 last night and was doing some testing. Clipboard didnt work at first, opened up the xlights clipboard and a S5 clipboard in notepad++, made a few changes to the xlights clipboard and it seemed to work. The changes I made were in the <cellDemarcations> region, I noticed the S5 clipboard only had a beginning and ending entry.

So today I thought I would get a bit more detailed information and pass it along. Unfortunately today I  cant seem to get anything to work.

Here are a few more clipboards and screenshots, I will let you genius's see what you can see, my head is hurting after playing with this all morning. Still cant believe I cant remember exactly what I did last night.

Since on export, xlights exports the entire prop to the clipboard, here are some clipboards of an entire prop in S5. The exports are of 16 candy canes with 16 pixels each. Both the xlights and s5 seqeunce is 30 seconds long. Each effect is on for 5 seconds and then off for 5 seconds.

I know you all are close. Thanks again for doing this!

OK.  I did some adjustments to the export.   Can you try importing the attached to your 16x16 canes?

Thanks for testing this... Kind of hard to do without actually having S5.  :)

Now that clipboards are working, I ran into another request that might be harder or not doable but you never know til you ask.

I have 16 arches that are in a group but this applies to any group. In the sequencer I have 3 layers that apply to all the arches, but here and there I have effects that only apply to each individual arch. When I export the arch model, it only exports the effects that apply to all the arches, not the effects that are on each individual arch. To get those effects I have to export each arch individually.

Would love to see an export that got all the effects applied to that group.

Thanks for listening and everything you all do.

Yeah that gets tricky.  Technically a group is really its own model so that's why you only get effects that render to that model.  The fact that you can view the models that were used to create the group is just a convenience.  If you start trying to gather everything that can affect the same channels that the group is rendering into then it would encompass a lot more than just the group's members because any other model could possibly overlap those channels or maybe just the channels of one or more group members.

Yeah, that makes sense. You could have a group called everything which has every props in it. Gathering all that info would be crazy. Thanks for replying. On to plan B.

You never know Dan might read this and say oh that's easy and do it in 20 minutes.

Well, it SHOULD be exporting whatever you see in the preview for the arch.   Basically, we take each node of the arch (or channel for v4 export), create an array of colors, one for each frame in the sequence, then use that array to export the data.   Thus, if you have effects on the group or the arch, it should be completely irrelevant when you export a single arch as long as everything is rendered properly.   If it's not, then something is wrong someplace.

That said, wait until the 2018.4 as we did a bunch of fixes in the lcb export and in the color[] -> effects so it might already be fixed.

Wanted to follow up on this. Clipboards to S5 are working perfect. I do the complete sequence in XLights. I then export my "all" group. Some of my clipboards have been 3 to 4 gig in size. I paste by time in S5 and the sequence comes in perfect.

Thanks again!

hi doug; i am just curious what there is in s5 that you use? You sequence in xlights and create a 3gb clipboard. so you can import into s5. I think Keith's xScheduler is very complete for schedulng and running shows (it can act as a master or dlave FPP , for example).

Are you stille diti9ng ac lights in s5 maybe?

just curious of your work flow

Hey Sean, No AC lights, got rid of those several years back. The number 1 reason I still use LOR is MIIP. Been using it for 4 or 5 years now, my display visitors love it, they easily choose the sequence they want to see while they are watching the display. Cant imagine running my display without something similar.

I also like some diversity in my display, my Xlights sequences look drastically different from my Superstar sequences and my straight up sequence editor sequences.

Been playing around with Nutcracker/XLights from the very beginning when it was just web based, I remember having to install some web service software to get it to run on your local machine. Amazing where you and your group have taken the software. Hopefully will see some type of guest sequence choosing this year.
