I think the Shockwave is broken in 2018 .3.
Blend edges doesn't work anymore.
-
I'll have to test it tonight but nobody has touched the file since Sept last year.
-
The blend edges checkbox is working and I tried the official download.
-
Okay that's a bit strange.
It's not working for me and I just noticed that the morph effect isn't fading out at the tail end.
I'm going to reboot the computer and test again in case it's just a glitch.
-
Still no love.
The Shockwave is working with hard lines on the leading and trailing Edge of the effect as well as the morph isn't fading out on the tail end instead it has a hard line that follows.
I opened an sequence where I used the Shockwave quite a bit as well as the morph and it seems to be hit or miss if it's working or not.
-
I just installed 2018 .2 and everything is working fine again.
I had a few things that didn't look right and it all seem to be related to The Edge blending.
-
So I reinstalled .3 from a fresh download and the blend edges is definitely broken at least for me.

The effect looks correct in .3 up to the point that I render it after it's rendered in .3 it doesn't work anymore.
-
Here's another video showing it before and after the render and then I put a morph effect in to show that that's not fading out.

I'd rather see the issue shown in a brand new sequence with only 1 effect so that we can eliminate interaction with blending of other models/effects.
-
I just tried on a fresh sequence and it does work so it is something that's an interaction within the sequence.
And it's definitely a change that was in .3 because .2 everything works fine.
Do you want me to package a sequence?
-
On a hunch I turned on allow blending between models and tested then it worked on my sequence.
Then I opened a fresh sequence and made note that allow blending between models was already checked. On the new fresh sequence as soon as I turn off allow blending between models the blend edges doesn't work anymore.
-
With further testing on a fresh animation sequence I'm finding that allow blending between models is toggling effects like Shockwave morph and even the 3D fade on single strand to not work.

For some reason the video didn't Capture Me turning the allow blending between models on and off.
-
Ok I'm not at home to double-check anything right now. Last night I thought I tried clicking the allow blending option and didn't see a change. But I think I did it in the settings menu and I thought that checkbox was in the Settings dialog so I guess I should check to make sure those are linked.
-
I'm changing it under sequence settings and it's definitely changing the behavior on a lot of effects that have fading built in.
If you can't reproduce it on your end let me know what files you need.
-
Well I see where Dan implemented a bunch of render optimization code changes that I don't quite understand with a quick look. I can see where some alpha blending might have been affected.
-
Committed a fix
-
There still seems to be a problem that's connected with the in-and-out transition.
It seems to only act up if the allow blending between models isn't checked. I'm on 2018 .4.
