Title: Thermostat wire
Post by: chrkov on January 23, 2018, 08:01:54 PM
Looking to see opinions here.   I was looking at different wire types to use to connect pixels back to the controller.   I was wondering if anyone else is using thermostat wire?  It comes in 18/3 and the jacket is UV resistant.  Seems to be a reasonable price and it would seem it would work fine.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't know anyone who uses it but it should work fine, at first. That type of wire is meant to be used once and left in place. With repeated flexing, solid wire becomes brittle and tends to break. From a guy who's spent lots of time fixing stuff in the yard, I stay away from it.

Agreed.  Unless you have a source to get it dirt cheap, IMO you would be better off buying a box of stranded Cat5 cable (in your choice of color, which you can't with stat wire) and use that for your Pixel cable.

As an alternative, this http://www.holidaycoro.com/100ft-3-Conductor-18-AWG-Extension-RGB-Lights-p/696-100.htm (http://www.holidaycoro.com/100ft-3-Conductor-18-AWG-Extension-RGB-Lights-p/696-100.htm) wire from Holidaycoro has been phenomenal.
