Title: Whole House Model - different colors!
Post by: drlucas on November 16, 2014, 04:31:20 PM
I have a mini tree that is BGR and when I play it as an effect with color wash I get the expected color. When I have that same mini tree as part of a whole house model it does not show up the same color. Attached is my xml file, hopefully someone can look at it and tell me if there is a reason why....

I kinda worked around by changing the colors on the controller. The curtain effect is WILD!!! I'll post a video in a short while...only issue left for me is that I do have stars on top of my trees, but I can just turn them off I suppose for the whole house effect when I'm doing any color other than white (which I guess isn't too bad as I'd be turning off my mini LED white reindeer for those non-white effects anyways).

Just really liking this whole house model. WOW - thanks Sean/Dave/Dan/others!!

I have fixed my right side window - but still have at least two items not working correctly. Oh well. Getting there.

looks nice, wow you have lights up.

yesterday i was at dave pitts helping him build a megatree (well maybe more an easel)
16 5m ws2811 flex strips.
Topper was a 2x6" 2ft long piece of wood. 16 hooks screwed in the bottom. 1/2" gray electrical pvc pipe to tie loghts on.

It is great that you can help Dave with his build. I really want to see the North Poles that you guys were building too. They should be part of my display next year and I'll use them to line both sides of my driveway. Don't forget when you are done that megatree that it needs a HUGE star on top!!!

Yesterday we got our first dusting of snow...about 1/2 inch so it was important to get to task on my lights early. That said I still don't have all the channels sorted out yet, but I'm almost there. This week I should have it all sorted out and then I'll scramble to get the sequencing done. I will likely work on papagayo file for do you want to build a snowman tonight and post it up along side the let it go one I did.

Hey drlucas - curious how did you outline your roof line.  Strips on pvc pipe?  Looking ahead to 2015 already.

If you are going to leave those vehicles in the front of your house, I think you should put lights on them.  What's another little project?  LOL  btw, I did put a solar battery multicolor light site attached to my roof rack one year.  Trouble was if you didn't get a sunlight the battery didn't get charged and voila no lights either, but it was kind of fun to drive around with lights on my van.  If I was to do it again I would use regular lights and a DC to AC converter to power them.

Correct on the pvc. Here is an attached picture of what it looks like. I didn't want to nail anything on the roof so used 1x3 strapping.

Well....in December I park in the neighbours driveway and my wife parks down the road. We don't get a ton of traffic so it's ok....if solar becomes an issue maybe Ray Wu sells lights that we can use like the UV lights to power the battery pack that way? I started with some Arduino projects this year (roomba playing jingle bells) but just haven't got it to flash lights yet...that project sadly got shelfed as I rebuilt the matrix.

Sean, funny we are half a world away and come up with the same basic design concept. My "easel" is 24 5m strands on 1/2" electrical pvc conduit except i wrapped electrical tape in a spiral around mine to attach the strip.

I'm having the same issue as in the OP.  Normally I set color order on the controller, but in this case, the flex strips I have are two different color orders, and they need to occupy the same output block on my 682 controller, so I need to set color order within xlights for one of these strings.

When creating a whole house model using the strings, the default string (RGB) color order one works, while the string using the modified color order (RBG) does not work correctly.  It's almost as if in creation of the whole house model, the color order of the model was ignored.  Not sure if this is a limitation of the whole house model?

Just curious since I'm thinking of ways myself.  You have it just laying there, including going down the sides?  Not worried about it shifting/wind?

I was worried about rain pooling up at the end of the house by the eaves and I was worried about it flipping off the roof. As it's all strapped together and the wind in 90% of the cases come straight on, it hasn't moved an inch in over a year now. I left it up this summer as a test. The way I deal with rain, is every 5 or so feet I have three extra pieces of strapping and it keeps it up off the shingles - that way rain drains off normally. I have two tiny ties around the roof vents on the other side of the house, but never had to worry about it. Last week we had some nasty wind steady at 50mph gusting up over 60. It was the strongest winds in the last year. Lasted for about 12 hours. Did some damage to my truck rear window when my trifold cover decided to fold the wrong way when the wind lifted it....but insurance is covering that for a small fee. sigh. as for the roof though, surprising. no. no wind issues. I'm taking it down at end of this season and will assess shingle damage and look at a better way next season. When I built my spinners and put them on the roof one did go flying, so I had to tack them down in 4 places....fortunately it didn't fly too far. I also last year had an issue with my coro singing tree. but since figured it would use two lag bolts and deal with that on the brick.

I can take better pictures, hunt for them..but that's in a nutshell what's up with that outline.

I'm having the same problem, see: http://nutcracker123.com/forum/index.php?topic=598.0 (http://nutcracker123.com/forum/index.php?topic=598.0) The way I understand it, the whole house model is just like any other model and can have only one color order, i.e., RGB.  I was able to fix this for some strings, e.g., GBR by moving the address one channel e.g., starting at 514 vs 513 but that doesn't work for BGR - technicolor pixels. I fooled around with the various types of controllers on the Falcon SSC program but so far, no joy. If someone know how to get around this problem, I (and likely others) would be very grateful.

Paul.

I just ran into this issue after finally getting set up last night.  I set each model to adjust for the strings out off order, but the whole house model is straights RGB.  Sean, will this be fixed our is it a cost of doing the model as one straight element?  I was hoping the model generator would use the order from each set string.  I have controllers in hard to reach places, and honestly didn't know they were different until testing.
Edit: I can fix the lower ones, I was off by one channel on my roofline for the first set, that hurt me a lot over 11 sets. I can fix this yet. :)

this only effects the display in preview.
It will be fixed but not until we get xlights 4.0 released in january/february time frame

Think of it as a 2014 feature.  At any rate the goodness is so much greater than the glitches that I am very happy.

That is an understatement!  I wouldn't even call it a glitch, just (yet another) requested feature by the masses!  :)
