Title: Output setup in FPP for the Octoscrolla
Post by: BRoberson on May 11, 2018, 07:11:41 AM
My BBB is set up and the input universe settings were upload successfully to FPP for my P5 panels from Xlights. Do I need to set up the output section in FPP for the octoscolla too or is that only for "standalone" mode? If the output side needs to be setup, I'm not sure which cape to use. The output upload section in xlights lists several cape types but nothing that I recognize that apllies to the octoscolla.

While doing some research I ran across, and watched, Keith's video on configuring the FPP. However it stopped after discussing the input side of the FPP.

BTW I will be running the FPP in bridge mode.

Thanks in advance. 8)
Cheers!

Yes you need to define the panels in an output section or it will have no idea have many panels you have and in what orientation you have them wired.  FPP code may have changed since I last used it.  I don't remember any "cape" option.  I just remember going to a section in outputs where you tell it you have like a 4x5 panel setup and you click to define arrow directions, output and panel numbers like O2P1, start channel, etc.

Thanks Gil! That's done. I was just wondering when I went to setup in xlights and right clicked on my p5 network e1.31 input it had an FPP option to send it to. When I right clicked and went to send to output it had a FPP cap option to send it too. Just curious.

xLights doesn't (currently) know anything about the panel setups.  Thus, it cannot do any setups for FPP related to that.    However, xLights DOES know about and can configure certain things for FPP which is what those popups are for.   Mostly, this includes:

1) e1.31/Artnet/DDP outputs - if you use FPP as a master to output to other controllers, this will copy all the outputs from xLights to that FPP instance and setup all the universes and everything.

2) e1.31/Artnet inputs - when used for bridging, this will setup the universes and channel ranges and such to listen on.

3) Pi/BBB ws2811 hat/capes.  (PiHat, F#-B, etc...)   If you have outputs configured on your models, xLights can setup the string outputs

All of that is for FPP v2.0.    v1.x is limitted to #1 above I think.

Thanks Dan. I'ts ready for testing once my octoscrolla arrives. The bbb is load with your 2.x image and inputs are setup in the FPP. I'll check back then. Thanks again

The unclear part Gil was the upload output info from the settings menu in xlights to FPP. When you right click from the settings tab in xlights to upload the output info to FPP it displayed capes that were foreign to me. It's clear now that its not nessecary to upload output info from xlights in this application.

Sorry I must be half asleep.  I saw my name in the first line of the quote and thought Dan was responding to what I said.  I deleted my reply since it was in error.
